I performed every movement since I was a child. Every facial expression. Every word I said. Crafted carefully.

Scanned through my computer of a brain. Turned over in every direction to land correctly for whoever I was in front of.

And when there was more than one person, more than one set of needs, I managed all of it at once. Running the math for the best possible outcome. Everything I did, done with other people in mind. So I wouldn’t do anything wrong. So I could be as perfect as I could be. So I would never be misunderstood.

When I walked away from my high control community and marriage I lost everything. Community. Friends. Family. Career.

I was alone. And I had nothing left to lose.

That’s where I found freedom. And I stopped performing anything.

I dress how I want now. I move how I want. I talk to people without the computer running first.

I feel free inside my own body, and I did not know a body could feel like this. I dance everywhere and laugh a lot. I meet lots of people and show up as I am.

I feel like I reverse aged. Lighter now than I was years ago.

The people who love me love me the way I am. And if I have to lose others, that’s ok, as long as I am not the one I lose again.

To be cringe is to be free.

There is a specific kind of tired that sleep does not touch.

It comes from being the strategist, the maker, the editor, the one who posts, the one who answers, the one who decides. All of it routed through one nervous system. Yours.

You told yourself it was easier this way. Faster. Cheaper. That handing a piece of it off would cost more than just carrying it.

The body disagreed. It always does. The tight jaw. The shallow breath. The Sunday that never feels like rest because part of you is already three tasks ahead.

Overfunctioning is a survival strategy you learned somewhere, in a room that needed you to hold everything so it would not fall.

You can put a piece of it down. On purpose. Into hands that were trained for it.

You were never supposed to be the whole team.

Your body has been trying to tell you something.

Ask someone to put their hands on your shoulders. Have them squeeze, work the muscles, press their thumbs in slow circles along your neck.

Feel how tight it is. Feel how much is actually living there.

That tightness has a story. When your body perceives stress, your trapezius, your neck muscles, your upper back contract and brace. It’s a survival response. Your body preparing to protect you, to hold the line, to get through whatever is coming.

For a lot of us, that signal stayed on.

So the muscles held. The fascia, the connective tissue wrapped around every muscle in your body, hardened around that tension and locked it in place. Cortisol kept circulating. The nervous system stayed on alert long after the moment passed.

Every deadline you absorbed without exhaling. Every conversation where you held yourself very still. Every time you had to be okay when you were anything but. Every moment your body went into protection mode and never got the signal that it was safe to come back down.

It stored all of it. Right there. In your neck and your shoulders and your back.

So when someone’s hands finally land there, and you feel yourself soften, your exhale get longer, your jaw release.

That’s your body recognizing something it has been waiting for.

It has been patient with you. It’s time to take care of your sweet soul.

I’ve done many kinds of ketamine treatment for treatment-resistant depression.

IV infusions.
Intramuscular injections.
At-home injections.
SPRAVATO in a doctor’s office.
And this is my experience.

Deep depression shrinks everything.
Your world gets smaller.
Your brain runs the same loops.
The same walls.
The same ceiling.
The same thoughts that feel like facts.

For me, ketamine treatment opened something.

With the psychedelic experience, there was space.
There were options.
Perspective came back online.
I could see outside the loop I had been trapped inside.

Feelings that had lived in my body for years started moving. Grief. Fear. Shame. Anger. Relief.
Things I had carried for so long that I didn’t even know I was carrying them.

And different treatments gave me different experiences. IV felt different than injections.
SPRAVATO felt different than at-home treatment.
Some sessions were emotional.
Some were more visual.
Some were peaceful.
Some were very hard.
Some felt like my brain was finally able to look at something without being swallowed by it.

The mind opens.
The body releases.
The nervous system gets a chance to experience something new.
The brain can begin forming new pathways.

For me, it brought clarity.
Expansion.
Healing.
Hope.

This is one part of my journey that changed a lot for me.

My therapist told me one day, “The version of you that everyone loves is the one that costs you the most to be.”

I sat there without saying anything.

Because she was right. And I had spent years building that version. Perfecting it. Making sure nobody ever saw the terrified girl underneath.

I was a therapist myself. I knew the language. I knew the frameworks. I could explain attachment theory well. But knowing something and living it are two completely different things.

Every one of these slides is something I heard in that room that cracked me open. Some of them made me angry. Some of them made me cry. All of them changed the way I see myself.

If even one of these hit you, save this. Send it to the person who needs to hear it.

And if you want to understand what your nervous system has been trying to tell you, comment BURN and I’ll send you a free nervous system scan.

Social media has made people very comfortable giving simple answers to complicated pain.

“Just leave.”
“Just set a boundary.”
“Just stop caring.”
“Just cut them off.”
“Just choose yourself.”

And sometimes, yes. Those things may be part of the answer.

But when someone says them casually, with no curiosity, no context, and no understanding of what it costs a person to survive inside a situation, it becomes another form of minimization.

People stay because they are surviving fear, conditioning, attachment, money, children, community, reputation, safety, grief, shame, loyalty. A nervous system doing whatever it takes to get through.

People freeze because freezing works. Until it doesn’t.

People carry it long after because the body keeps the score whether you want it to or not.

This is true in high control religion. In abusive relationships. In mental health. In family dynamics that look fine from the outside and cost everything on the inside.

The situations that get reduced to a quick answer are usually the ones that took years to build and touch every single part of a person’s life.

So before the easy answer, get curious.

What don’t I know here?
What did it cost them to survive this?
What would I need to understand before I could actually help?

Follow for the conversations that are raw and real

Happy holidays 🌸🌺🌷

When you grow up in a high control religion, self-gaslighting becomes a survival skill.

You’re handed two truths and expected to hold both. You are loved completely. And that love has conditions you have to track every single day.

Some of the splits look like this:

God is loving and merciful. And God will punish you for any doubt or misstep.

You were created with inherent worth. And your worth is measured by the good and bad you do.

Love others as they are. And do not associate with those outside the faith.

Family is sacred. And family will shun you if you stray.

Truth is accessible to everyone. And only the leaders can interpret what is true.

Obedience is love. And your own judgment cannot be trusted.

Your nervous system can’t hold that contradiction. So it does the only thing it can. It starts policing your inner world. Every thought, every feeling, every flicker of doubt becomes something to catch, suppress, and correct before it costs you something.

The hypervigilance starts to feel like self-awareness. The constant correcting starts to feel like devotion. The shrinking starts to feel like who you are.

Over time you stop trusting what you sense. What you feel. What you know.

That’s what self-gaslighting does to the nervous system. It doesn’t just change how you think. It changes where you feel safe in your own body.

And it follows you out long after you leave.

If this is you, you are not alone.

There’s an other side from where you are right now. One where the weight shifts. Where something small catches you off guard and feels good. Where you breathe again.

Sunshine still exists. Connection still exists. Tiny pieces of joy still exist, waiting for you to land on them.

Hold On Pain Ends. That’s what HOPE stands for.

I see you.
❤️‍🩹, Suri

Save this. Come back to it.
