In regards to the Louisville Metro anti-massage therapy ordinance....we need all the assistance from the public and related professionals (OTs, PTs, DCs, etc.) we can get.
Please show up to Metro Council meetings in our support.
Please contact your Metro Council member to state your opposition to the ordinance.
And please support here:
I am exploring a parallel path of seeking official legal opinions on whether
A. this ordinance is even legal.
B. avenues it can be attacked in the event legal proceedings against the city need to be initiated.
C. where we LMTs are vulnerable under the ordinance, and clarification on HIPAA and data handling from an actual HIPAA attorney.
D. areas in which the city is vulnerable to lawsuit, including class action, as reasons to induce them to repeal.
I have made arrangements with Atty. Mark Brengelman in Frankfort for
"a letter opinion covering the city ordinance, massage therapy licensure law, and the federal HIPAA law, and we would thereafter include a conference call or Zoom meeting of any (reasonable) duration with you and anyone supporting you to discuss the opinion letter".
I am collecting donations via Venmo to assist with covering the cost of this.
As someone told me recently, the $200 licensing fee is "just a couple of massages"......isn't it worth the cost of a couple massages to have clarity, to stand up for ourselves as professionals, and to find out where we stand? I certainly believe so. If you wish to be included, I am asking for donations of $200, but will accept any from any LMT to your ability to assist. Cost of the opinion letter and followup is $2000.
