"Nothing hurts yet, so do we really need to do anything?" is a common question our clinicians hear. But the absence of pain does not mean the absence of progression.

Scoliosis does not always announce itself with pain, especially early on. But an untreated curve can quietly affect how the spine responds to treatment over time, how the lungs function in more severe cases, and how mechanical stress is distributed across the discs and joints as the years go on.

The window where care can make the greatest difference is often before symptoms become the loudest thing in the room.

If you or your child has not had a scoliosis check in a while, it is worth booking one. Call our clinic or visit our website to get in touch with our team.

Debunking the Myth: Is scoliosis caused by a weak core? The short answer: No! Research shows that core weakness does not cause or prevent scoliosis.

Scoliosis is a 3D structural change in the spine and growth plates, not just a muscle issue. While a strong core supports overall spinal health, general strengthening exercises alone won't correct a structural curve.

If basic workouts and reps haven't improved your scoliosis, it’s time for a targeted approach like ScoliBalance or ScoliBrace!

Getting a scoliosis diagnosis is not just a clinical moment. For a lot of people, it is an emotional one too.

The worry about looking different, keeping up, or what life might look like from here does not always get talked about in the same breath as X-rays and treatment plans. But it is just as real, and it deserves just as much space in the conversation.

If this resonates with you or someone you know, share it with them. This part of the journey deserves attention too.

Did you know scoliosis can affect digestion and cause rib pain? Many people are surprised to learn that scoliosis symptoms extend far beyond the spine! From bloating and acid reflux to rib discomfort, and sometimes even no pain at all, scoliosis isn't always obvious.

That’s why routine screenings and specialized posture checks are so crucial for early detection.

Not all scoliosis curves behave the same way. Spine health isn't a one-size-fits-all approach.

Did you know that age, skeletal maturity, curve location, and 3D rotation all determine whether a scoliosis curve will progress? That's why relying on a single Cobb angle reading isn't enough.

Early intervention, specialized exercise programs (like ScoliBalance), and comprehensive evaluations are key to managing scoliosis effectively.

Don't wait and see! Get proactive with your scoliosis care today. Click the link in our bio to schedule a comprehensive assessment at ScoliCare Louisville!

If you or your child gets headaches regularly, scoliosis might be worth considering as part of the picture.

It is not the most obvious connection, but the two can be linked in a few ways. Uneven posture from a spinal curve can pull on the muscles of the neck and upper back, creating tension that builds into headaches. In some cases, particularly once growth has slowed, curves can become more compressive and place pressure on nerves. There is also emerging research around how a curved spine may affect the flow of fluid around the brain and spinal cord.

New or worsening headaches are not something to brush off, especially for someone already living with scoliosis. They can be a sign that something is shifting.

Save this and bring it up with your clinician at your next visit.

One of the most common concerns we hear from parents about bracing is whether wearing a rigid brace will weaken their child's trunk muscles over time. It is a fair question, and research now gives us a clearer answer.

A study looked at trunk muscle endurance in 33 adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis treated with bracing alongside a scoliosis specific exercise program. What they found was the opposite of what many families fear: trunk muscle endurance improved, not declined.

The takeaway is an important one. Bracing paired with the right exercises can support strength and spinal stability rather than take away from it.

A huge thank you to our research team - Rose Mirenzi, Dr. Juan du Plessis, Dr. Tamara Pooke, and Dr. Jeb McAviney - for contributing this work to the global scoliosis community!
