These twin foals arrived at our clinic for examination after being born unexpectedly at home— and while they are absolutely precious, twin pregnancies in mares are considered very high risk. In fact, only about 1% of equine twins survive to birth and remain viable.

This is exactly why prenatal ultrasounds are so important in mares! Early pregnancy checks allow veterinarians to identify twins early on and greatly improve the chances of a healthy outcome for both mare and foal.

We are still happy to meet these little ones and wish them the very best moving forward! 💕
