most people associate skin to skin with mom and baby. but dads, this one is for you. 💙

when a father holds his newborn skin to skin, his brain releases oxytocin – the same bonding hormone triggered in mothers. research shows this is not weaker in fathers. it is the same system, activated by the same stimulus: direct physical contact with their baby. cortisol drops measurably. caregiving confidence increases. the biology does not require nine months of pregnancy.

for baby, the benefits are just as significant. heart rate steadies. breathing stabilizes. body temperature regulates. stress hormones drop. babies held skin to skin by their fathers cry less, sleep more calmly, and quickly learn to recognize dad’s scent, voice, and heartbeat.

and from a feeding standpoint, dad skin to skin gives a breastfeeding mom rest while keeping baby calm and regulated. for babies in feeding therapy, a regulated baby learns new skills faster. this is something concrete and powerful a dad can do even if he is not the one feeding.

summer is here and so are all the questions about babies and water. here is what you actually need to know. 👇

before 6 months, no water. breast milk and formula provide everything your baby needs, even in the heat. extra feeds are always the safer choice for young infants.

around 6 months when solids start, small sips with meals are appropriate. skip the traditional sippy cup and go straight to an open cup or straw cup. both support oral motor development in ways a sippy spout does not.

how to actually do it: offer sips with meals, not between them. start with 2 to 4 oz per day. do not force it. if your baby gags or refuses, back off and try again in a few days. the goal at this stage is skill building, not hydration.

feeding milestones do not have to feel overwhelming. if you have questions about where your baby is at, reach out. free discovery calls available.

i could have opened a clinic. i chose your living room instead. 🌿

because the best feeding sessions happen where your baby is most comfortable, most relaxed, and most themselves. not in a waiting room. not on a schedule that was never designed with your family in mind.

the goal was never to build a big practice. it was to build the right one. one that meets families where they are, takes time to actually understand what is going on, and never makes a parent feel dismissed or rushed.

bond and bloom is mobile, private pay, and built entirely around you. if your baby or toddler is struggling to eat and you are tired of not having answers, this is what that support can look like.

what you have been told about tongue ties is probably wrong. 👇🏼

here are 4 myths i hear constantly – and the truth behind each one.

myth 01. if your baby is gaining weight, the tie is not a problem.

weight gain is one indicator of feeding function – but not the only one. a baby can gain weight while still compensating in ways that cause ni**le pain, excessive gas, feeding fatigue, and poor milk transfer efficiency. gaining weight does not mean feeding is working well. it means the baby is surviving it.

myth 02. tongue tie always looks obvious.

many significant ties, especially posterior tongue ties, are submucosal. they cannot be seen without lifting the tongue and palpating the tissue. if your provider only looked and did not feel, they may have missed it entirely.

myth 03. posterior tongue tie is not real.

it is real. it is underdiagnosed specifically because it requires hands-on assessment to identify. the functional impact of a posterior tie is well documented and can be just as significant as an anterior tie.

myth 04. if it was really a problem, your baby would not be eating at all.

this is one of the most common dismissals parents hear. babies with tongue tie can and do eat. they just compensate. those compensations cause pain, fatigue, air intake, and long term oral motor issues that do not always show up right away.

if you have been dismissed, minimized, or told to just push through – you deserve a second opinion. 🌿

When most people hear “tongue tie” they think breastfeeding. And yes, it absolutely affects nursing. But the impact does not stop there.

A tongue tie can affect how a baby takes a bottle, how they manage their first foods, how their oral motor skills develop over time, and how well they handle a varied diet as a toddler.

The tongue is one of the most hardworking muscles in the body. When its mobility is restricted, the effects show up in a lot of places beyond the breast.

If your baby is struggling with bottle feeding, gagging on solids, or your toddler has a limited diet and you have never had a functional feeding evaluation, it may be worth looking into.

I offer free discovery calls. Reach out anytime. 🌿

Nobody talks about this enough. 👇 If you checked off any of these, your body is not broken. It is asking for support.

Birth is one of the most intense neurological events your body will ever go through and without the right support, your nervous system can stay stuck in survival mode long after baby arrives. So many moms white knuckle through those early weeks not even realizing that is what is happening. You deserve to go into this season informed, prepared, and supported.

That is exactly why Dr. Elizabeth Bush and I created the Prenatal Wellness Workshop. A free, relaxed morning designed for expecting or postpartum moms right here in Lubbock.

Summer is one of the most common times I hear from parents who felt like they were finally making progress and then suddenly everything fell apart.

New schedules. Vacation. Eating out more. Less structure. It can feel like you are back at square one.

You are not.

When routines shift, children who already have a complicated relationship with food often need more support, not less. Changes in mealtime behavior over the summer are worth paying attention to rather than waiting out.

These four strategies are grounded in what feeding therapy research actually supports. They work whether your child is currently in therapy, on a waitlist, or you are just starting to notice that something feels off.

If the struggles feel bigger than a seasonal disruption, summer is a great time to get ahead of it before the school year starts.

Reach out to schedule a free discovery call. I would love to help. 🌿
