📣 News from the AAMC: Revised Telehealth Competencies Across the Learning Continuum

The Association of American Medical Colleges has released Version 2.0 of its Telehealth Competencies, reflecting how virtual care has evolved into a routine part of clinical practice. The updated framework includes clearer progression across training levels and greater emphasis on digital fluency, remote monitoring, patient-generated data and contemporary telehealth practice.

We’re excited to see this next chapter in telehealth education, and we're proud that the TexLa Telehealth Resource Center has a role in both shaping it and putting it into practice.

Ariel Santos, MD, MPH, TexLa TRC principal investigator, serves on the AAMC Telehealth Medical Education Committee and contributes to the national conversation about how future health professionals are prepared for virtual care.

Additionally, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, in collaboration with TexLa TRC, is featured in the AAMC Telehealth Curricula Profiles, showing what that work looks like in action.

One of the best sessions at the 2026 TexLa Telehealth Resource Center Digital Health Summit focused on how digital strategies can improve prevention, chronic disease management, and healthier communities.

A few key takeaways:

✨ Digital health is about people and partnerships, not just technology.
✨ Data can help us move from reactive care to proactive prevention.
✨ Innovation must improve access for rural and underserved communities.

As an appointed member of the Texas Rural Hospital Officers Academy (RHOA) Advisory Committee and leader of the statewide implementation of RHOA through the George McMillan Fleming Center for Healthcare Management at UTHealth Houston, these conversations are especially meaningful. The future of healthcare depends on working together to improve access and outcomes for every community.

Thank you to the speakers and organizers for an inspiring session!
