I am reminded today of how fortunate I am to have grown up in a home where I earned how to garden, harvest and can and…weed!

💜 Near and dear to our hearts is nutrition!

If you care about your health, what you put into your body should be at the top of the list.
Not 3rd or 5th.

The goal isn’t perfect, it’s progress.

The benefits:
Reduced pain and inflammation.
Improved mental clarity.
Improved sleep.

Watching our parents age brings a mix of emotions that can be difficult to navigate-love, worry, sadness, guilt, uncertainty, and sometimes even fear. Many families find themselves facing tough conversations about safety, health, independence, and long-term care, often feeling overwhelmed and alone.

At Dignified Transitions, we understand that these decisions are much more than finding the right care. They are about honoring a lifetime of memories, preserving dignity, and supporting families through one of life's most emotional journeys.

Whether you're struggling with difficult conversations, feeling the weight of caregiver guilt, or simply don't know where to start, we're here to walk alongside you. We provide guidance through the complex long-term care process while offering compassion, understanding, and support every step of the way.

You don't have to navigate this journey alone. 💜💜💜

Listening for the Emotions Beneath the Words 💜

Aging transitions often come with emotions that families don’t always know how to express. Fear. Guilt. Grief. Relief. Uncertainty. Love. Sometimes these feelings show up as frustration, short tempers, tears, or silence.

One helpful way to understand stress is the “Fish Tank Model.”

🐠 How many rocks are in my fish tank?
The rocks represent the stressors we are carrying—caregiving responsibilities, health concerns, financial worries, changing family roles, work demands, and the grief that can accompany life’s transitions.

💧 How high is the water line?
The water line reflects our current capacity to cope. When the tank is nearly full, even one more “rock” can cause the water to overflow.

As we support older adults and their loved ones, one of the most compassionate things we can do is name the emotion before trying to solve the problem.

✨ “It sounds like you’re feeling overwhelmed.”
✨ “I can hear how worried you are about making the right decision.”
✨ “This transition is bringing a lot of mixed emotions for your family.”

When people feel heard, they often feel less alone.

Before responding today, consider asking:

“How many rocks are in your fish tank, and how high is your water line?” Are there any rocks you can remove or get help with?

Sometimes, the greatest support isn’t having all the answers—it’s helping someone feel seen.

Thank you for all the well wishes for Abby! She has chosen not to have a graduation party to celebrate her accomplishments.
Her future plans are going to Moorehead State University in the Honors Program to pursue a degree in Psychology and to have her own practice.
I am so proud of her choice to choose a career of serving others!
We will be celebrating by going to a BTS concert in Foxborough Massachusetts in August!

Life Transitions ❤️💜

May has been a milestone month for our family. We celebrated Abby’s graduation from MACCRAY High School and Allison’s graduation from the College of Saint Benedict.

We are incredibly proud of the hard work, and grit both of our girls have shown to reach these important milestones.

Parenting is a journey and each parent does the best they can with what they know at the time. Sometimes the path is smooth sailing, and sometimes it’s messy, but every step helps shape the people our children become.

Abby and Allison, we pray for God’s blessings as you begin these next chapters. May you be open to the opportunities, lessons, and adventures that come your way. Stay true to your values, and never forget how deeply you are loved.

Walk with dignity, confidence, and grace, young ladies! The world is waiting for you. ❤️✨💜
