Have you heard about the CARE Act?

“What is the CARE Act?”
The Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment (CARE) Act provides community-based behavioral health services and supports to eligible Californians living with schizophrenia spectrum or other psychotic disorders through a new civil court process focused on recovery.

"Why does it matter?"
The CARE Act offers an alternative to:
🚫 Involuntary hospitalization
🚫 Conservatorship
🚫 Jail or homelessness

“Who can qualify for the CARE Act?”
Adults (18+) with untreated schizophrenia or related psychoaffective disorders who are:
🔹 Not engaged in treatment
🔹 Struggling to survive safely
🔹 Likely to benefit from support

“Who can submit a petition for someone to participate in the CARE Act?”
Under the CARE Act, the following people can file a petition:
Family members
Licensed behavioral health professionals
Licensed clinicians
First responders
Public guardians and conservators
Certain judges or representatives

“What happens after a petition is filed?”
Once a petition is filed, the court reviews the request and asks the county’s behavioral health team to engage with the individual and assess whether they’re eligible for a CARE Plan.

🐶 Prescription: More tail wags. 🐱

While pets aren't a substitute for mental health treatment, they can be wonderful companions that help reduce stress, provide routine, encourage exercise, and remind us we're never truly alone.

Whether it's a dog greeting you at the door after a long day or a cat curling up beside you on the couch, animals have a special way of helping us feel connected and cared for.

If you've been considering pet adoption, check out this FREE adoption event from our friends at Lake County Animal Care & Control and meet some furry friends who are looking for a loving home!

🏳️‍🌈 June is Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

Pride is more than a celebration—it's a reminder of the importance of acceptance, connection, and community.

Research consistently shows that LGBTQIA2S+ individuals experience higher rates of behavioral health challenges due to stigma, discrimination, and barriers to care. Supportive communities, affirming relationships, and access to quality behavioral health services can make a meaningful difference.

This Pride Month, we celebrate authenticity, uplift LGBTQIA2S+ voices, and encourage everyone to help create spaces where people can be themselves without fear.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. Our mobile crisis response team is available 24/7: 1-800-900-2075

Happy Pride Month from Lake County Behavioral Health Services! 🌈
