We're celebrating Valeria Levias as our Employee of the Month for September!

Valeria shows compassion in every aspect of her job, often serving as translator for our patients and guide for her coworkers as they learn to navigate new systems. When you see Valeria in the office, she's probably got a smile on her face and a positive attitude to match. She'll even stop what she's doing to bring a bottle of water to anyone she sees outside in the heat. Valeria is a ray of sunshine and a true blessing to the health district!

Dr. Kyle King, Chairman of the ACCHD Board of Health, has a message for the Angelina County community. You can read his full statement below or via The Lufkin Daily News - https://shorturl.at/DIZ3F.

His sentiment is shared by the Executive Director of ACCHD, Yesenia Cabral-Fletcher RN, MSN, who says, "I am immensely dedicated to ensuring that ACCHD delivers exceptional services to our community. This is our promise to the community: to serve you with honesty and integrity."

To the citizens of Angelina County and the communities we serve,

I am honored to have recently been elected by my fellow board members to serve as chairman of the Board of the Angelina County & Cities Health District (ACCHD). I accepted this responsibility with a clear understanding of how important this organization is to our community and to the thousands of individuals and families who depend on the services we provide.

Over the past several months, ACCHD has experienced changes in administration, leadership roles, staffing and organizational structure. Change - particularly within an organization that has served this community for generations - can naturally create questions and uncertainty. However, these changes are about strengthening ACCHD, addressing challenges directly and positioning the Health District to better serve our community for years to come.

In fact, there is a tremendous amount of work happening behind the scenes.

We have recently secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding that will allow us to make significant improvements to our facilities. We are investing in new patient-management software, technology and infrastructure upgrades, and other improvements designed to modernize the way we provide care and make the patient experience more efficient.

We would love for you to see all that we’ve done - we invite you to schedule an appointment and let us serve and assist you or your loved ones.

In addition, we have recruited new members to our Board of Health, bringing additional experience, perspective, and community representation to the table. We have conducted staff surveys and town halls so that the people working inside the Health District have a voice in its future. We have established new board committees to provide greater focus and oversight in critical areas and to help us navigate an increasingly challenging and changing healthcare funding environment.

Just as importantly, we are listening.

We are listening to our employees. We are listening to our patients. We are listening to our community partners, local governments, healthcare providers, and the citizens we were created to serve.

There are challenges ahead, and there are areas where we know we must improve. We will not pretend otherwise. But those challenges are being met with action - not avoidance.

Our board is committed to responsible stewardship of public resources, transparency, accountability, improved communication, and rebuilding confidence in the health district. Some of the changes being made today may not always be visible from the outside, but they are being made with one goal in mind: creating a stronger, more sustainable organization capable of caring for our community.

For decades, the Angelina County & Cities Health District has played an important role in protecting public health and caring for some of the most vulnerable members of our community. That mission has not changed.

We are here. We are moving forward. And we are committed to serving you.

I am grateful to my fellow board members, our dedicated employees, community leaders, and everyone who continues to support the mission of ACCHD. There is much work still to be done, but I am excited about the direction we are heading and confident in what we can accomplish together.

Thank you for your trust, your patience and most importantly, your continued support of public health in Angelina County.

Did you know you need vaccines throughout your life? Even if you were fully vaccinated as a child, the protection from some vaccines can wear off over time. Your needs also change as you age - including new recommendations for the shingles and RSV vaccine for adults 50 years of age and older.

ACCHD makes staying up-to-date with immunizations easy. Our team administers vaccines Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also visit our website for the full recommended schedule for adult vaccines, https://www.acchd.us/documents/adults-schedule-easy-read.pdf.
