🎾 The US Open is underway in New York, and while we see the matches, we don’t always see everything surrounding them.

Practice days. Competition days. Recovery days.

Each has a different purpose, and athletes in every sport can benefit from treating all three as part of the same plan.

Consistent training builds capacity. Competition puts that preparation to use. Recovery gives the body time to respond to the workload before the next hard effort. Sports medicine guidance specifically emphasizes gradual training progression and adequate recovery rather than stacking strenuous sessions without sufficient rest.

The same principle applies to recovery tools like acupuncture, cupping and other forms of supportive care. They aren’t substitutes for smart training, sleep, nutrition or appropriate medical care. They can simply be incorporated into a larger recovery routine based on an athlete’s individual needs.

At Synergy Acupuncture, we work with athletes to build care around the demands of their training and competition schedule.

August is National Golf Month! But if the inside of your elbow starts hurting every time you grip the club or work through your swing, you may be dealing with golfer’s elbow.

Golfer’s elbow, or medial epicondylitis, is an overuse injury affecting the tendons that connect the forearm muscles to the inside of the elbow. Repetitive gripping, wrist flexion and forearm rotation can overload these tendons over time. In golfers, poor swing mechanics, gripping too tightly, or rapidly increasing how much you play or practice can all contribute.

The result is typically pain or tenderness on the inside of the elbow that may extend into the forearm or wrist, along with stiffness or a painful, weakened grip. That can make it harder to control the club comfortably and maintain your normal swing.

A few ways to protect your elbows this golf season:

⛳ Warm up your wrists and forearms before hitting the first tee.
⛳ Build forearm strength gradually instead of suddenly increasing your volume at the range.
⛳ Check your grip and swing mechanics. Excessive grip pressure and inefficient technique can increase stress on the inner elbow.
⛳ Give pain time to recover. Continuing to play through symptoms can aggravate the tendon and prolong recovery.
⛳ Use stretching and progressive strengthening as part of your recovery and prevention routine.

If elbow pain is starting to affect your game, don’t just adjust your swing around it. At Synergy Acupuncture, we work with athletes to address musculoskeletal pain and develop a treatment plan built around recovery, mobility and getting you comfortably back to the activities you enjoy.

Keep your elbow healthy and your swing on course. Book your appointment with Synergy Acupuncture today!

Formula 1 is back at Zandvoort for the Dutch Grand Prix, August 21–23, and at this level of competition, performance is about much more than what happens on race day. Every detail matters, from preparation and ex*****on to how the body recovers before the next session.

The same mindset applies to athletes at every level.

At Synergy Acupuncture, we take a performance-focused approach to care, creating treatments around the individual athlete and what their body needs.

Whether you’re chasing milliseconds or simply trying to perform your best at your next workout, preparation and recovery belong in the plan.

🏁 Train hard. Recover smart. Keep performing.

July is Park and Recreation Month, making it the perfect time to explore a local trail, spend a day outdoors and take advantage of the parks in our community.

Before heading out, give your body a quick check-in:

✅ Warm up before tackling steep climbs or uneven terrain
✅ Wear supportive footwear suited to the trail
✅ Increase distance and difficulty gradually
✅ Pay attention to ankle stability, knee discomfort, tight calves, hips and your lower back

Warming up, maintaining strength and flexibility, and choosing appropriate footwear can help reduce the risk of common strains and ankle injuries during physical activity.

Already feeling the effects of your weekend adventures? Acupuncture can help manage musculoskeletal pain, including low-back, neck and knee pain, and can be incorporated into a broader recovery plan.

Listen to your body now so you can keep enjoying the trail all summer long.

⚽ World Cup Final in New Jersey: Soccer Recovery Checklist

The world’s biggest game is landing in New Jersey! Tomorrow, Spain and Argentina will meet at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final.

Soccer demands repeated sprinting, sudden stops, rapid changes of direction, kicking and physical contact. That can place significant stress on the hamstrings, hips and groin, knees, calves and ankles.

Whether you are playing competitively or joining a weekend pickup game, keep this recovery checklist in mind:

✅ Cool down gradually instead of stopping immediately
✅ Replace fluids lost through sweat
✅ Refuel with carbohydrates and protein
✅ Use gentle mobility work to address tight areas
✅ Prioritize quality sleep
✅ Do not play through sharp pain, swelling or instability
✅ Consider acupuncture as part of a broader recovery routine

Proper post-game recovery should include hydration, nutrition, sleep, active recovery and appropriate attention to pain or injury symptoms.

At Synergy Acupuncture, we help athletes address soreness, muscular tension and movement restrictions so they can recover intelligently and return to the activities they love.

🎾 Wimbledon Finals Weekend Is Here!

Whether you’re watching the world’s best compete or heading out to play a few sets yourself, tennis demands much more than arm strength. Repetitive serves, forehands and backhands place significant stress on the shoulder, elbow, forearm and wrist. Upper-extremity injuries in tennis are commonly associated with overuse, especially when court time increases faster than the body can adapt.

Pay attention to warning signs such as:

• Pain along the outside of the elbow
• Shoulder discomfort during serves or overhead movements
• Wrist soreness or reduced grip strength
• Tightness that changes your swing mechanics

Acupuncture and sports-focused needling may be incorporated into a broader treatment plan to help manage pain, reduce muscular tension and restore more comfortable movement. Research suggests acupuncture may offer short-term improvements in pain and function for lateral elbow tendinopathy and certain shoulder conditions.

Don’t wait until a minor overuse issue takes you off the court. Schedule an appointment with Synergy Acupuncture and give your shoulder, elbow and wrist the attention they need.
