I’ve been dealing with perioral dermatitis around my mouth for about 3 weeks now, so today I’m showing you exactly what it looks like after 5 days of no makeup and aloe only. No filter, no hiding it. Also, one of the products I’m cautiously trying: e.l.f.’s salicylic acid + aloe formula.

Salicylic acid can be a little spicy for sensitive skin, so I’m taking it slow and paying attention to how my skin responds. 🌿 The aloe was definitely what caught my herbal loving attention. 😂

A follower asked what herbs and supplements I take and truth is… my “supplement cabinet” looks a lot more like an herb shelf. 🌿😂

I do take a few actual supplements, but whenever I can, I prefer getting nutrients and plant compounds closer to the source - through herbs, teas, tinctures, and whole foods.

Basically: less “handful of capsules,” more “what can I steep, infuse, or tincture?” 😂

And somehow this reel still didn’t cover half of what makes its way into my cup throughout the day.

I can do a Part 2 where I show the herbs I use in a normal day 🤍 🌱

I have ALWAYS noticed this and genuinely thought my nose was just being dramatic 😂 One nostril will be breathing like a champ while the other one is apparently off the clock.

Turns out it’s a real thing called the nasal cycle - your body naturally alternates airflow between nostrils throughout the day. So apparently my nose has been working a shift schedule this whole time. 🌿👃

Did you know this, or did I just ruin the illusion that both nostrils were pulling equal weight? 😂

From Surviving to Blooming 🌿

Hi, I’m Blakely, the woman behind Root to Bloom Apothecary.

And if you had met me a few years ago, I’m not sure either of us would have imagined that I’d be here today.

My story didn’t begin with a perfectly curated kitchen filled with herbs, handmade candles, plants hanging in the windows, and a business I loved.

It began in survival mode.

A couple of years ago, I became incredibly sick and spent weeks in the hospital, including time in the ICU. My body was fighting more than I realized, and there was a very real possibility that I wasn’t going to make it home.

I was scared.

I was exhausted.

And my life had reached a point where something had to change.

But somewhere in the middle of one of the darkest seasons of my life, I encountered God in a way I never had before.

And everything began to shift.

Not overnight.

Not perfectly.

And definitely not in a straight line.

Healing hasn’t been a pretty before-and-after story.

There have been setbacks. There have been mistakes. There have been days when I’ve questioned myself, struggled with sobriety, wrestled with fear, and wondered what my life was supposed to look like after surviving something that changed me so deeply.

But I kept coming back.

Back to God.

Back to myself.

Back to the life I knew I had been given another chance to live.

Little by little, I started paying attention to the things I had once rushed past: what I put into my body, what I brought into my home, the plants growing around me, the food I ate, the things I created with my own hands, the peace that came from slowing down, and the incredible complexity of the world God created.

I became fascinated with herbs and traditional preparations. Eventually, I started learning everything I could about teas, tinctures, botanical oils, salves, skincare, and plant-based ingredients.

What began as curiosity became a passion.

And that passion eventually became Root to Bloom Apothecary.

So why “Root to Bloom”?

Because it describes my life.

Sometimes the most important growth happens where nobody can see it.

Underground.

In the dark.

At the roots.

Before anything ever blooms above the surface.

For a long time, I thought the hardest seasons of my life had destroyed me.

Now I can look back and see that some of those seasons were actually growing roots.

Roots in faith.

Roots in gratitude.

Roots in resilience.

Roots in knowing who I am and what truly matters to me.

And eventually, those roots started producing something new.

Today, Root to Bloom is where so many parts of me come together: my love of herbs, my creativity, my fascination with natural living, my love of making things with my hands, my faith, my desire to keep learning, and my belief that we should understand more about the things we put in and on our bodies.

You’ll find herbal teas and tinctures, botanical skincare, candles, preserved flowers, handmade pieces, gardening experiments, natural-living ideas, and probably whatever new thing I’ve become fascinated with that week.

I’m still learning.

I’m still healing.

I’m still growing.

And I don’t want to build a brand that pretends otherwise.

I want this space to feel like sitting at my kitchen table while I show you the herbs I’m working with, tell you what I’ve been learning, pour you a cup of tea, and probably send you home carrying something I made.

Root to Bloom is ultimately a reminder of something I had to learn the hard way:

Your life can look completely different from the season you’re standing in right now.

You can rebuild.

You can learn.

You can change.

You can come back to God.

You can start over as many times as necessary.

And sometimes, the place you thought was the end of your story becomes the soil where the next one begins.

I’m incredibly grateful to still be here to tell my story.

And I’m even more grateful that you’re here to be part of it.

Root to Bloom Apothecary.

From Soil to Soul. 🌿

The race to build more data centers is colliding with a basic reality: these facilities exist inside living ecosystems. Large projects can require enormous amounts of electricity, land, and water, while new transmission lines and supporting infrastructure can place additional pressure on forests and wildlife habitat. Communities increasingly have to ask what they are being asked to sacrifice for digital growth.

Technology should serve people without treating clean water, pollinators, forests, and healthy land as expendable. Bees help sustain food systems, forests store carbon and shelter wildlife, and freshwater supplies are already under pressure in many regions. Progress loses its meaning when the price is damaging the natural systems every community depends upon.
