I will never tire of this gift of pandiculation, aka horsie stretch, during an appointment.

Not all horses want to be touched at first. So starting with something familiar, like grooming, can help put them at ease and build trust. I let horses smell the curry or brush first. Then I can do "Goldy Locks grooming" and get some gentle myofascial release. This ol' gal seemed to really appreciate this approach. Looking forward to our second session to see what she has to say about how we can make progress.

Getting to know a new horse is a big deal and can take time. In most cases, the second appointment is smooth sailing. This athlete has a busy schedule this summer. We are focusing on helping him be comfortable and successful with his rider! It's an honor to be on their team.

Well, this cutie had her second appt of a case study. And as much as I was shocked about her 'before/after' pics from the 1st appt, I was not confident that the change in posture would last because her EPM symptoms were significant. And the second appt confirmed that I was being realistic. And that is equally important to share.

What I find most interesting is how much her posture changes within the appt, and how she has adapted but it is hard on her body.

What I found most endearing is that she was super chill and settled for this second appointment and then hung around while her barn mate was getting pampered!

She's already an ol' girl, so our goal is to help her be as comfortable and able-bodied as she can be for as long as possible. She's a trooper!!!

This cutie mare has graciously agreed to be one of my case studies for my level 3 craniosacral course. She had a severe facial injury a few years back, so she was a great candidate. However, once I met her in person, I saw her pelvis really needed help too.

My initial steps were to address overall body tension. Next, I focused on her pelvis. And then I was able to give attention to her head, the original concern! She is engaging willingly in the techniques to release the tensions and showing more symmetry in her face. The hind impacts the poll which impacts the hind and everything in between.

What I see: She doesn't look like a tight balloon squishing her body tight and limiting joint movement. It's like she's wearing yoga pants now, not skinny day skinny pants. She looks more plump and relaxed, more like an athlete. And her face looks more relaxed and symmetrical.

Her owner has shared feedback along the way that confirms what I feel and see.
* she just did a big stretch with her left hind!!
* stretching both hinds out now
* rollling more now
* she had been sleep deprived in the past because she used to shake really bad trying to lay down. but now she is laying down in her stall during the day
* giving a lesson and she looks so good.
* picking up her legs, stepping under herself
* she has more go too!
* I just got on her... OMG!!! HUGE difference!!!
* jumping raised ground poles instead of walking over them
* appetite hasn't decreased this Spring and has not lost weight like in the past
* bug bite reactions and sores are fewer and much less severe
* she's never moved like this since I've owned her for the last 7 years

WOWIE WOW WOW!!! MELT MY HEART!!! 🥰🥰🥰We have one more session for her case study, then we plan to shift to maintenance. There's ONE more symptom that I am curious to see if there will be any changes. Stay tuned! PS I LOVE MY JOB!

This seems to be the only way I can express myself after attending Nahshon Cook Horsemanship's Wisconsin Gathering last weekend. These are the lessons he taught us while letting us into his workday. If you have not yet been, and my digital drawing / artwork resonates with you, consider going. Reach out to his FB page directly for details about the experience and remaining dates.
