💜 International Overdose Awareness Day | August 31 💜

In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, Volunteers from
The Archway Recovery Residences placed 841 purple flags in front of NOMA's office on Bob Wallace Avenue, representing the 841 Alabamians who lost their lives to overdose during the most recent 12 month reporting period by the
CDC .

Every purple flag represents a life. Every life represents a family, a friend, and a community forever changed.

Throughout our community, local businesses like Terrame Day Spa & Salon will be lighting up purple to help shine a light on overdose awareness, remember those we have lost, support those who are grieving, and remind everyone that overdose is preventable and recovery is possible.

At The Archway Recovery Residences, we've learned that recovery culture can't be built by rules or drug tests alone. It's built when one resident gives another a ride to a meeting, makes the coffee, or shares what worked for him with a newcomer. Contribution creates connection. Connection creates belonging. And belonging gives men something worth protecting.

In just 18 months, that culture has helped our Huntsville sober living community grow to 30+ residents and 4 resident managers. Men who once needed someone to show them the way now show it to others.

We don't just recover beside one another. We grow because of one another.

Partnership for a Drug-Free Community (PDFC) is excited to invite your organization to become a sponsor of our 6th Annual PULL’N FOR RECOVERY Fire Truck Pull, taking place Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10:00 AM–1:00 PM at 500 Trash Panda Way in Huntsville.

PULL’N FOR RECOVERY is more than a competition—it is a community coming together to show that recovery takes strength, teamwork, and support.

Teams will put their strength to the test by pulling a fire truck while competing for awards and bragging rights, all while raising awareness and critical funds to support PDFC's mission.
Every dollar raised through this event goes directly back into supporting the FREE services PDFC provides to individuals, families, and our community, including substance use assessments, treatment referrals, recovery support, case management, peer support, prevention education, and community outreach.

Here is the latest review:

Our family member came to Archway during the middle of a very serious crisis, and as a family, it was honestly terrifying sending them somewhere unfamiliar during such a vulnerable time. From the very first phone call, though, our family member immediately felt comfortable with the Program Director, and that feeling only continued while staying there.

What stood out to us most is that Thomas is truly involved and caring for the men there. He lives in the same complex as the men, stays engaged in their day-to-day lives and activities, and has built a community where the residents clearly trust and respect him. He focuses on what is truly important for recovery and avoids creating unnecessary rules or barriers that make an already difficult process even harder.

The living environment itself is outstanding, but what made the biggest impact on our family was the level of care Thomas showed. He went above and beyond for both our loved one and communication with me. . In a very short amount of time, he built trust and respect with our family member to the point that, after completing a higher level of care that became necessary, they plan to return to The Archway to continue their sober living journey.

Thomas has a unique ability to meet people where they are, build trust, and genuinely show compassion. He helped ease a stressful situation for us. When our loved one needed a different level of care for a period of time, Thomas was incredibly patient, compassionate, and proactive in helping us find the right place for them to go.

We are deeply grateful for the support, guidance, and care shown to us during such a difficult season. The Archway has been a true blessing to us and I highly recommend them

In early recovery we need to take care of our health which has oftentimes tragically gone on too long unmanaged. This is why we have developed a partnership with grant funded Weiss Family Care. They have a mobile unit that can come to where the patient is to provide free STI/STD testing and TREATMENT. The nurse practitioner works magic in providing low-no cost treatment medications. If anyone needs this contact please reach out and I will gladly pass along the information. Let’s do all that we can together to help those that we serve!!!

Today I had the distinct honor and privilege of attending Judge Hundley’s drug court precedings outlining the docket and was amazed. I have never seen a more compassionate and understanding staff and providers gathered together in support of the community I love.
Treatment providers, Recovery residence operators, social workers, attorneys, prosecutors, and various support agencies all gathered together in therapeutic support of the men and women suffering from substance use.
NOT PUNITIVE!!!
Therapeutic solutions delivered with compassion and understanding.
This court understands the disease concept. I am overjoyed to see the shift in the justice systems approach. They deserve celebration for the good good work they are doing.
