🌿 Meet Me Outside: The Final Two

Somehow August got away from me, and I realized I never shared Meet Your Rhythm here last week. So rather than skip it, I’m sharing the final two Meet Me Outside reflections together. 🌎🌿

This series has been interesting for me because I started it wanting to explore grounding, but each week seemed to open another door. πŸ‘£β˜€οΈπŸŒ± What began with our relationship to the Earth moved into light, nourishment, digestion, rhythm, receiving, and ultimately some of the same questions that have shaped my work in holistic dental health for years. 🦷

That is probably what I love most about learning this way. One subject rarely stays in its own little box. The mouth doesn't. Digestion doesn't. Our nervous system doesn't. Nature certainly doesn't. The more connections I see, the more questions I have, and sometimes those questions lead somewhere I wasn't expecting.

These last two reflections did exactly that. πŸ’›

🌿 Meet Me Outside: Week Three, Meet Your Nourishment

When we talk about nourishment, the conversation usually begins with what we're eating.

But digestion begins before the first bite.

The sight and smell of food, the anticipation of a meal, our surroundings, and the state of our nervous system all influence how the body prepares to receive what we're about to give it.

And that's an important distinction.

We can spend a lot of time choosing better foods, adding minerals, taking supplements, and trying to replenish what we think is missing. But nourishment also depends on what happens once it reaches us.

This week's Meet Me Outside explores that relationship through digestion, the cephalic phase, the nervous system, Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Earth Element, and the simple act of being present enough to receive.

Meet Me Outside

Last week, we began our August series by expanding the idea of grounding beyond earthing and reconnecting with the Earth beneath our feet.

This week, we turn our attention to another relationship that has shaped life since the beginning: light.

What if sunlight is much more than warmth or vitamin D?

Our bodies are continually receiving information from the changing qualities of natural light. Sunrise, UVA rise, solar noon, and sunset each carry different signals that help organize our daily rhythms.

In Week Two, I explore our relationship with sunlight through circadian biology, mitochondrial function, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and even the morning chorus of birds that has signaled the beginning of a new day for generations.

As we continue exploring Grounding and Digestion, Meet the Morning invites us to consider another piece of grounding: reconnecting with the natural rhythms our bodies have always lived within.

I hope you'll join me.

Meet Me Outside

Grounding has become one of the most talked-about topics in holistic health. Along with it has come an ever-growing number of products, opinions, and claims about what it is and how it works.

I wanted to step back and ask a simpler question.

What if grounding is much bigger than earthing or grounding sheets?

In this first article of a four-part August series, I explore the relationship between grounding, earthing, Traditional Chinese Medicine, circadian biology, and our connection with the natural world.

We'll look at why the Earth Element is associated with the Stomach and Spleen, why researchers continue studying the Earth's electrical potential, and why our relationship with nature may influence far more than we often consider.

Throughout August, each week's invitation will build on the one before as we explore the Earth, morning light, intentional meals, and daily rhythms.

I hope you'll join me.

Back in April, I began a series highlighting the people who have influenced the way I approach health, healing, and biological dentistry. Then life interrupted the series.

This week, after listening to Dr. Zach Bush's conversation on The Joe Rogan Experience, it felt like the right time to return to it.

Dr. Bush has a unique ability to connect biology, the microbiome, mitochondria, light, soil, nutrition, and the body's remarkable ability to adapt. While I don't build my work around any one person's philosophy, I deeply value those who encourage me to ask better questions and look beyond isolated systems.

In this week's blog, I share how his perspective has influenced my own thinking and why curiosity continues to shape the way I care for patients, study health, and continue learning.

If the article resonates with you, I'd be grateful if you shared it with someone who enjoys exploring health through a broader lens.

Salivary pH has become a popular topic in biological dentistry, yet there is still a great deal of confusion about what those numbers actually mean and how they should be interpreted.

In this week's blog, I share how my perspective has evolved after decades in dentistry and years of studying Reams Biological Theory of Ionization (RBTI). Rather than choosing one philosophy over another, I've found value in understanding what each one contributes to the bigger picture.

If you've ever been told your mouth is "too acidic," or you've wondered why different practitioners interpret pH differently, I think you'll find this article both thought-provoking and practical.

One of the things biological dentistry has taught me is that there are very few simple answers.

A night guard is a good example.

It can protect healthy teeth and jaw joints, but it can also become the place where the conversation stops.

I don't think that's enough.

My latest blog shares how I approach these decisions, the materials commonly used to make night guards, and why I believe protecting the teeth and searching for the underlying cause should happen at the same time.

If that way of thinking resonates with you, I hope you'll enjoy the read.

One of the most common questions I receive is, "What manual toothbrush do you recommend?"

For a long time, I put off answering that question because there are thousands of toothbrushes on the market, and I don't believe a single recommendation is the right answer for everyone.

Instead of creating another list of "the best toothbrushes," I decided to create something I believe is far more valuable,
a framework.

In this week's blog, I walk you through the questions. We explore bristle firmness, materials, brush head design, handle considerations, marketing claims, and the importance of choosing a toothbrush that supports your oral environment and your individual needs.

My goal has never been to tell people what to buy.
My goal is to help you understand how to evaluate the products you bring into your home so you can make informed decisions with confidence.

🦷 NEW ARTICLE: What to Look for in a Toothpaste

Walk down any oral care aisle and you'll find products claiming to remineralize enamel, strengthen teeth, balance the microbiome, reduce sensitivity, whiten stains, freshen breath, and prevent cavities.

The challenge isn't finding a toothpaste.

The challenge is understanding how to evaluate one.

In this week's article, I explore some of the questions I believe are worth asking before choosing an oral care product:

βœ” Is it intended for maintenance or treatment?

βœ” Does it support the oral ecosystem?

βœ” Does it work with saliva or attempt to replace its role?

βœ” Is the company transparent about sourcing and testing?

βœ” Is a Certificate of Analysis (COA) available?

βœ” What is the Relative Dentin Abrasivity (RDA)?

βœ” How processed are the ingredients?

βœ” Does the formula support long-term balance and resilience?

The best toothpaste is not necessarily homemade, the newest technology, the shortest ingredient list, or the product with the strongest claims.

It is the one that best supports the body you have, the season of health you are in, and the natural healing processes already working within you.

This week's blog was supposed to be about manual toothbrushes.

The research is underway, and I will be returning to that topic next week. I am also working on a comprehensive toothpaste article that many of you have requested.

Instead, this week took me somewhere unexpected.

As I reflected on a recent anniversary with my husband, David, and a concept I encountered in my studies, I found myself exploring a deeper question about healing, relationships, old patterns, and the stories we carry throughout our lives.

The phrase that inspired this week's reflection was simple:

Healing happens in response.

What followed became one of the most personal blog posts I have written in quite some time.

If you've ever found yourself questioning your direction, examining old wounds, or wondering what life may be trying to teach you through the challenges you are facing, I think this article may resonate with you.
