As a recreational therapist, I notice the little things people don’t always realize they’re carrying. The held breath. The tight shoulders. The nervous laughter. The exhaustion hiding underneath ā€œI’m fine.ā€ The way stress quietly settles into the body over time.

I notice how differently people regulate. Some people need movement. Some need silence. Some need creativity, grounding, nature, connection, or simply permission to slow down for the first time in a long time.

I notice how quickly the nervous system responds when someone finally feels safe, supported, and no longer pressured to perform. Sometimes it looks like a deep breath. Sometimes it’s laughter. Sometimes it’s tears. Sometimes it’s simply sitting still long enough to realize how overwhelmed they’ve been.

I notice how powerful the environment can be. Nature softens people. Sensory experiences bring people back into the present moment. The body starts communicating differently when we slow down enough to actually listen to it.

Most of all, I notice the moments people reconnect with themselves again. The moments they become more present, grounded, playful, aware, and human.

Those moments are what remind me why this work matters so deeply to me.

Journaling doesn’t always need to be deep or complicated.

Sometimes it’s simply creating space to check in with yourself honestly.

No pressure.
Just reflection. 🌿

I think social media often makes healing look like some huge life-changing breakthrough. But in reality, it’s usually much quieter than that.

Sometimes healing looks like:
• feeling grounded again
• sleeping better
• noticing your body relax
• feeling less emotionally reactive
• reconnecting with nature
• laughing more freely
• finally allowing yourself to slow down

Small moments matter.

And often, those small moments are the beginning of something much bigger.
That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about creating intentional spaces where people can pause, reconnect, and simply breathe again.

Most people don’t come here because life feels easy.

They come carrying stress, overstimulation, emotional exhaustion, and the weight of constantly having to hold everything together.

This work isn’t about escaping life.
It’s about creating space to reconnect with yourself within it. 🌿

🌿Testimonial Tuesday 🌿
One participant shared:
✨ ā€œUnplugging in nature and focusing on my senses helped release tension from my body.ā€ ✨
So many of us carry stress physically without even realizing it, tight shoulders, shallow breathing, constant tension, mental overload. Sometimes the nervous system simply needs an opportunity to slow down and feel safe again.
Through sensory awareness, intentional activities, and time spent in nature, participants begin reconnecting with their bodies in a different way, noticing tension, releasing stress, and becoming more present.
Sometimes healing starts with something as simple as putting the phone down, stepping outside, and paying attention to what your body has been trying to say šŸ’š

We have a lot of new faces here lately, so I thought I’d reintroduce myself. 🌿

Hi, I’m Sami, recreational therapist, nature lover, and founder of Re-Tx Yourself.

For over 15 years, I worked in healthcare helping people recover physically as a Physical Therapist Assistant. But throughout those years, I kept noticing something deeper:

So many people were functioning through life while silently carrying stress, anxiety, burnout, and emotional exhaustion. The kind of people who smile through panic attacks. Who keep showing up for everyone else while quietly running on empty.
Who don’t realize how disconnected they’ve become from themselves until they finally slow down.

That realization is what led me back to school to pursue my Master’s in Recreational Therapy at Grand Valley State University, where I researched the therapeutic benefits of nature, mindfulness, and Forest Bathing to help combat anxiety and depression.
What started as research eventually became Re-Tx Yourself, a space designed to help people reconnect with themselves through nature-based, evidence-based experiences that support mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

This work is incredibly personal to me, and I’m so grateful to be building something rooted in healing, connection, and the belief that people deserve spaces where they can finally exhale.

I’m so glad you’re here. šŸ¤

The version of you that shows up here isn’t rushing.
Isn’t multitasking.
Isn’t carrying everyone else for a few days.

They’re softer. More present. A little quieter.

And usually somewhere along the way, they remember what it feels like to actually be themselves again.

That version of you already exists.
Consider this your invitation to return to them.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed lately… this might be your sign to pause for a second. šŸ¤

Not to disappear from your life. Not to run away from your responsibilities.
Just to step outside of the noise long enough to hear yourself think again.

To sleep deeply. To breathe easier. To spend a few days somewhere that doesn’t require anything from you except your presence.

Sometimes a small reset changes more than we expect it to.
