Starting yoga can feel intimidating.

You wonder if you’re flexible enough.
Experienced enough.
Strong enough to begin.

But Mysore practice was never designed for perfection. It was designed for people to learn gradually, personally, and at their own pace.

That’s why we created our free guide:

✨ Is Mysore Style Right for You?
A Beginner’s Guide to Personalized Yoga

Inside, we walk you through what Mysore actually is, how it’s different from traditional group classes, and why this method can feel so supportive for beginners, people recovering from injury, or anyone looking for a more personal approach to practice.

No pressure to keep up.
No need to “perform” yoga.
Just a clearer understanding of how the practice can meet you exactly where you are.

If you’ve been curious about starting, this is a beautiful first step.

Not everyone wants a loud room or a fast-paced class.

Some people are looking for a quieter space. A place where they can ask questions, receive more guidance, and practice without feeling overwhelmed.

Robin’s Monday evening Mysore class is exactly that.

The room is small, supportive, and intentionally personal, allowing each student to practice at their own pace while receiving thoughtful instruction and care along the way.

Robin teaches with steadiness and patience, helping students feel comfortable enough to slow down, learn deeply, and build confidence over time.

It’s a beautiful class for beginners, returning students, or anyone wanting a more grounded and individualized practice environment.

Tonight, the sky grows quiet.

In the Ashtanga tradition, New Moon days are observed as days of rest, a pause within the rhythm of practice. A moment to step back from striving and allow the body, mind, and nervous system to settle.

The energy of the new moon is often grounding and inward moving. Rather than pushing outward, we are invited to listen more carefully, reflect more honestly, and reconnect with what feels essential.

There will be no Mysore classes today in honor of the New Moon.

Sometimes rest is part of the practice too.
Not separate from it.
Not less important than it.

Just another way of learning balance.

And tomorrow, we return to the room again.

One room remains.

Our Lefkada, Greece Retreat is almost complete, and after months of planning, dreaming, and watching this experience slowly come together, we are down to the final space.

Soon, a small group of us will gather beside the Ionian Sea for a week of practice, movement, rest, conversation, exploration, and quiet moments that stay with you long after you return home.

Morning Mysore overlooking the water.
Slow afternoons beneath the Mediterranean sun.
Shared meals.
Deep rest.
A chance to step away from the noise of everyday life and reconnect with yourself in a meaningful way.

There is something special about saying yes to experiences that nourish you deeply.

And now, there is one final opportunity to join us.

One of the biggest misconceptions about hands-on adjustments is that they’re meant to “put” someone deeper into a pose.

Most of the time, that’s not what I’m trying to do at all.

I’m usually trying to help the student become more aware of their own body in space.

Can they feel where their weight is shifting?
Can they feel whether they’re actually grounding through their feet?
Can they recognize when they’re hanging into passive structures instead of creating support through the body?

So much of movement quality comes down to awareness.

Learning how to stack the body intelligently in space changes everything. When weight is distributed more efficiently and the feet begin actively communicating with the ground, the entire system organizes differently.

This is where concepts like tensegrity become really important. The body isn’t just isolated muscles working independently. It’s an interconnected tension and support system constantly adapting moment to moment.

Sometimes a subtle adjustment is simply helping someone finally feel that connection for the first time.

That awareness changes practice far more than forcing depth ever will. 💛

The body is always communicating.

Through tension.
Through fatigue.
Through the way we stand, move, compensate, and carry stress over time.

Body Mechanics is a practice of learning how to listen more carefully.

These classes are designed to help you move with greater awareness, stability, and support by understanding how the body actually functions. Rather than forcing flexibility or pushing through discomfort, the work focuses on intelligent movement, nervous system awareness, posture, strength, and long term sustainability.

It is thoughtful.
Precise.
And deeply supportive for people navigating pain, stiffness, injury recovery, aging, or simply wanting to move more well.

This work meets you where you are while helping you build a stronger relationship with your body over time.

One of the most beautiful things about this practice is that it continually asks us to remain students.

No matter how long we’ve practiced, how much we’ve learned, or how many people we guide, there is always more to observe, refine, soften into, and understand.

Robin embodies that spirit so naturally.

She shows up to her own practice with humility, steadiness, and dedication, not to perfect it, but to continue learning from it. And that willingness to stay curious, present, and committed is part of what makes her such a thoughtful teacher.

The best teachers continue to practice.
Continue to listen.
Continue to be students themselves.

Mysore is not about keeping up.

It is not about performing, achieving, or forcing yourself into someone else’s pace.

It is a practice built slowly. Breath by breath. Repetition by repetition. A method that teaches you how to listen to your body, understand your mind, and develop a relationship with practice that becomes deeply personal over time.

In Mysore, every student is guided individually within a shared room. Beginners practice beside advanced students. Each person working exactly where they are, receiving support, adjustments, and instruction appropriate for their own journey.

This is where the practice becomes sustainable.
Where confidence is built quietly.
Where discipline becomes devotion.

There is something powerful about entering a room where everyone is practicing together, yet inwardly. No performance. No comparison. Just presence.

Many people walk into a Mysore room for the first time and wonder what’s happening.

There’s no instructor leading from the front.
No one moving perfectly together.
Each student is practicing quietly at their own pace, receiving individual guidance along the way.

And that’s exactly what makes Mysore so special.

Mysore style is the traditional way Ashtanga Yoga is taught. Instead of trying to keep up in a fast paced group class, students learn gradually, posture by posture, breath by breath, in a way that is personalized to their body, experience, and needs.

Over time, the practice becomes deeply personal.

You build consistency.
Confidence.
Awareness.
Strength that feels sustainable rather than forced.

There is space to ask questions. To slow down. To truly understand what you are learning instead of simply following along.

And within that individual practice, a quiet community forms. People practicing beside one another, encouraging each other, and growing together over time.

At The Yoga Shala, our Mysore room is welcoming, supportive, and open to all levels, including complete beginners.

You do not need to be flexible.
You do not need to “be good at yoga.”
You simply need a willingness to begin.
