“The home eye exam” is becoming a bigger part of the conversation in eye care, and a recent AI in Eye Care article offers a helpful look at what is already out there.

The future of retinal care includes more information between regularly scheduled office visits, whether through ForeseeHome monitoring for patients at risk of progression from intermediate dry AMD to wet AMD, or SCANLY Home OCT for patients already diagnosed with wet AMD.

Together, these technologies reflect an important shift in eye care: from relying only on single time-point assessments to supporting physicians with longitudinal information from the patient’s home.

Eight years of consistent ForeseeHome testing. One important alert. A 20/20 wet AMD diagnosis.

Congratulations to Rahul Komati, MD and the Georgia Retina team on an outstanding catch.

This patient was referred in January 2018 with both eyes enrolled for monitoring. After years of frequent testing and no prior alerts, the left eye alerted in February 2026. At the follow-up visit, Dr. Komati diagnosed wet AMD conversion while the patient’s vision was still 20/20

Cases like this highlight the value of keeping patients engaged in monitoring over time.

A great fellow-eye catch by Dr. Scott Prickett and The Eye Associates team with ForeseeHome.

This patient was referred in November 2025 with 20/30 vision and alerted in early February 2026. At the post-alert exam, wet AMD conversion was diagnosed while vision was still 20/30.

When a patient already has wet AMD in one eye, the fellow eye plays an especially important role in day-to-day vision. This case underscores the value of monitoring between scheduled visits, when conversion can occur before the next routine appointment.

Congratulations to Byron Ladd, MD and the Virginia Eye Institute team on another example of ForeseeHome monitoring in action.

This patient had been testing frequently for 5.5 years before wet AMD conversion was diagnosed at 20/20 vision. Long-term consistency matters, and this case highlights the importance of keeping eligible AMD patients engaged in monitoring between visits.

A great catch by Dr. Atul Sharma and the Georgia Retina team with .

With wet already in one eye, this patient was referred in November 2022 to monitor the fellow eye and remained a consistent tester over time. More than three years later, wet AMD conversion was diagnosed following a ForeseeHome alert while the patient was still seeing 20/20.

Cases like this highlight the value of monitoring between office visits to support timely treatment, especially for patients whose second eye is at higher risk of converting and carries added importance for day-to-day vision.

An Optometry Times interview with Carolyn Majcher, OD, FAAO, makes an important point: early wet detection is strongest when in-office OCT and home monitoring work together. Dr. Majcher emphasizes that is the standard of care in office, while home monitoring can help clinicians track change between appointments and support more timely follow-up.

That is why plays an important role. It adds another layer of monitoring between regularly scheduled eye exams and complements in-office OCT as part of a more complete monitoring strategy.

Congratulations to Majda Hadziahmetovic and the Duke Eye Center team on this important ForeseeHome catch.

Referred in early January 2026 with 20/20 vision, this patient’s wet conversion was diagnosed at the end of March 2026, with vision still at 20/20. Cases like this are an important reminder that change can happen between regularly scheduled visits, before a patient notices symptoms on their own.

Congratulations to Ryan Deasy, MD and the Virginia Eye Institute team on a ForeseeHome catch.

This patient was referred in October 2025 with 20/60 vision, and less than two months later, a ForeseeHome alert prompted evaluation and Dr. Deasey diagnosed wet AMD at 20/60-1.

Without monitoring between visits, this change may not have been identified until the patient’s next regularly scheduled appointment months later. Studies have shown that delays in treatment after wet AMD conversion are associated with worse visual outcomes.
