Every overdose is a person, not a statistic — someone's son, sister, neighbor. On August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day, communities across Prince William County and around the world pause to remember them, and to remind each other that overdose is preventable.

Here's what to do if you think someone is overdosing: call 911 right away. Look for slow or no breathing, blue or grey lips, and no response when you say their name or shake them. If naloxone is available, it can be given safely — it won't hurt someone who isn't overdosing. Stay with them until help arrives.
