i’ve been thinking lately about how cars used to transport us between various places and states of being outside. now so many use the outdoors to pass through on the way to places inside.

and i can’t tell if it’s convenience or forgetting, but it gives me a quiet kind of ache.

being outside, "out there," the outdoors.

we move through it and by it, instead of toward it. a beautiful sky of color through our windshield, a breeze felt on your way from where you parked to where you're headed into. grass is mowed with not enough bare feet in it. the porch light is on but no friends gather underneath it. nature paths & hiking trails maintained but we wear headphones when we walk them.

i keep coming back to this thought. how we once used cars to carry us out into the world, and now we use the world to carry us between rooms.

I guess what i'm saying is maybe we should spend more time under the sky and porch lights. and in grassy places where animals live and crickets chirp. letting the outside be somewhere we treat as a destination, the whole activity, the whole point.

trans people have always been here and always will be.

it's a really difficult time to be a trans person. not because being trans is hard, but because people make things hard FOR trans people.

being an ally is not soft or passive, it's active, intentional and frankly easy. be kind, be informed, be inclusive, be someone who speaks up.

because if it's not this, is some other damn thing, you know? we know you know.

add to this list: being in the present moment. I'm finding it reflex to think about what's coming, always with the "what's coming" in my mind.

putting all my energy into trying to notice the patterns, make plans for next week and the week after and the week after, get everything on the books, schedule every minute of my life so that I can fit it all in.

and adding pressure on myself with questions like what's my next big goal, what am I doing to improve myself, what do I need to work on, healing-this & healing-that.

it all has its place, yes. but my god if we keep living this way where does the living fit??

what I noticed making this little series of tangible ways I'm keeping my sanity. I noticed that it's really just about closing tabs. closing tabs in my mind, things drawing on my attention, constantly trying to catch up or get ahead, prep.

there's function and purpose to that, but I lost the plot. maybe you have too a bit.

perk of it all is that it's easy to get back to balance... just add little things here and there, don't try to fit everything in this week, leave pockets of boredom.

this way you can ask yourself "what do i want to do right now?" instead of "where do I need to be right now?"

HUGE difference.

our reels capture the feeling of this space, but it's unusual we capture this part.

too busy being in the thick of it to consider capturing it, probably. the village it is after the doors are locked and we should have been home hours ago.

but this is what we look like after you leave. noise machines & music go off, we spread out and papers & notes come out of the woodwork. lists and emails are read through, we share stories about you all and relish in the abundance.

it's usually chaos like this, the slow work of making sense of it all.

cups of tea, reheated coffee and snacks from the basket in oak room- we'll be home having dinner soon but for now we're here.

when you're here and the music is playing and the village has its hum.
to when you've gone home and the space rests and we're just us three.
we feel it, this space. in all its way.

we're grateful. we're contended.

we love you all. we love this village.
