๐ง National Cheese Day ๐ง
Not all cheese is created equal ๐
Many cheeses commonly found in the States are highly processed, made with additives, anti-caking agents, artificial colors and milk from large scale production systems. While convenient, these products can be very different from traditional cheeses made using simple ingredients and methods!
Around the world, many cheeses are still produced with just a few basic ingredients: Milk, Cultures, Rennet and Salt
Traditional cheesemaking often relies on longer aging processes, diverse bacterial cultures and less processing, which can create unique flavors and textures that many people enjoy.
When shopping for cheese, it can be helpful to look beyond the front label and check the ingredient list. In many cases, the shorter and simpler the ingredient list, the closer the product is to traditional cheesemaking methods.
Today is a great reminder that quality matters just as much as quantity! Whether it's cheddar, gouda, parmesan, feta or something new, taking a closer look at how your food is made can be just as important as what you're eating.
