It is the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year.. the beginning of the school year is a very social time for all grade levels in school. Kids are getting reacquainted with friends, meeting new friends, and personal contact (hugging, sleepovers, group pictures) inevitable. This is concerning with head lice infestations.
Lice starts with only one person infested ..Through personal contact, it rapidly spreads. Lice have NO social class. We ALL are EQUALLY acceptable to being infested with lice (without using prevention methods...)
Be aware!!!!! Check your children's heads on regular basis. If yr not experienced on identifying lice, schedule a professional head check by a lice specialist, or have someone who is experienced check yr child's head..(I have been a Certified Lice Specialist since 2009.)
Watch your kids for excessive itching of scalp; however, keep in mind, ONLY 50% OF PEOPLE with an active lice case will have any itching signs...so u must go out of your way to investigate yr children's head on regular basis.. It is our duty as parents, to protect our kids through lice education, which will minimize the risks of falling victim to a contact and the exposures associated with lice.. We MUST be advocates in the prevention & EARLY IDENTIFICATION of lice. It is also OUR responsibility, If yr child gets infested with lice, to contact all family, friends, & teachers who are in close contact with yr child. Any individual in close contact with an infested lice case, should have a professional or experienced person check their head for any signs of lice. But others must be made AWARE of exposure to know the need to be checked.. the average child will have lice 4-8 weeks before they are ever diagnosed as having lice. Think of how many exposures to others that could be????? and the potential rapid spread from one case.????..We must do all we can to play an active role in the prevention methods minimizing the risks of exposure.
Let's make it a goal of ours to keep lice out of our schools.. Educate yr children on prevention so risks reduced in the event of an exposure. ..Simple measures to the steps in keeping our kids free of lice..
Tip of the week: Head Lice hate mint odor & will avoid possible contact with mint.
U can prevent lice bugs from wanting to cross over to you, beginning an infestation if an exposure occurs , by using a peppermint based shampoo/conditioner. After rinsing conditioner, use about a quarter size amount and rub through hair as if gel and leave in hair. This will reinforce the minty odor so it's stronger for the lice bugs to smell and reduces your risk of occurence.
Also, u can mix a teaspoon of the mint conditioner with water into a sample size spray bottle. Shake it well. It is now your homemade mint spray. Throughout the day, occasionally spray outer part of yr hair like a football helmet lightly to create a mint odor /barrier distracting lice from your hair. ( no more than 3 -4 sprays and twice applying spray during day necessary)
Let's work together...as a team, we can educate & minimize the spread of lice, in the event active cases are identified among our kids peers/classrooms/sports involvement .. Together, Lets Ensure/ follow up/ask these parents if they are aware of treatment options to remove lice appropriately, effectively, and resolution is confirmed after treatment complete. Lets share our past experiences & knowledge with parents by giving them referrals /info. ,we are aware of, that will assist & educate them in this removal process. The parents need to be informed that all close contacts & family members should be head checked to ensure a spread did not result within their home...
So use minty products...decrease your risk ..hopefully this will be a better year with lice occurrences. ...
