In the management of venous leg ulcers, dressing selection often requires balancing exudate management with patient comfort and compatibility with compression therapy.

What dressing characteristics are most important in your clinical decision-making for managing moderate to heavily exuding venous leg ulcers?

A bordered silicone foam dressing designed with superabsorbent stripes – such as Cutimed® Siltec® B – can absorb and retain wound exudate while helping to maintain a moist wound environment.

Cutimed® Siltec® B's silicone-coated wound contact layer is designed to adhere to the surrounding skin while minimizing adherence to the moist wound bed and newly formed epithelial tissue during dressing changes.

Additional design features, including a self-adhesive silicone border for secure yet gentle fixation, an anatomical fit to conform to the lower limb, and a shower-proof outer layer, may support practical considerations in everyday wound management.

As exudate levels and patient needs can change throughout the course of treatment, selecting a dressing with characteristics that align with the wound's presentation remains an important aspect of comprehensive venous leg ulcer care alongside standard treatment approaches, including compression therapy when appropriate.

Managing a highly exuding early-stage venous leg ulcer (VLU) can be challenging.

In a recent case, early intervention with Cutimed® Sorbion® Border on a highly exuding early-stage venous leg ulcer in an elderly patient enabled fast exudate control and stable healing, leading to early epithelialization and full closure within 25 days*

Hydrofera Blue CLASSIC® antibacterial foam dressing is constructed of an open-celled PVA foam, effectively managing exudate to promote wound healing.

The porous structure uses a strong wicking action¹ to draw bacteria and yeast from the wound bed, killing bacteria within the dressing and reducing bioburden. It supports gentle autolytic debridement² ⁴ by removing devitalized tissue and aiding in the promotion of healthy growth and safe, non-cytotoxic wound healing.³

➡️ Naturally non-cytotoxic, broad-spectrum antibacterial protection
➡️ Effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria and yeast commonly found in wounds³
➡️ Supports gentle autolytic debridement
