AI & Medical Results

The 21st Century Cures Act mandates patient access to all health information in their electronic records "without delay". This often means patients see test results, including laboratory and imaging reports, at the same time or often before their physician has reviewed them.

Transparency is vital in your care. It builds trust and allows you to be an informed and active leader in your care team.

I fully support our transparency practices, but it may create a challenging dynamic in the setting of cancer related results. Reports can be confusing, loaded with both detail and nuance.

Several of my patients received their pathology reports this week, ahead of my call to them. Each quickly copy and pasted the results into AI search/ChatGPT. While some of the information they found was accurate, some was wildly misleading and led to undue anxiety and stress.

AI can be very helpful- giving us guidance and tips in our everyday life. My advice when it comes to cancer work up and results: Take a breath. Speak with your surgeon. Bring your questions. Raise the concerns you may have found/heard. This is the best way for you to be empowered. You’ll be given the right answers and options that lead to an ideal treatment pathway. One step at a time.

Happy National Doctors’ Day!
📣🙏 🌺
Our team made me feel so special! They surprised me by decorating the office with a Hawaiian theme, put pink flowers in their hair and wore leis. Our patients got a kick out of the festivities and it certainly brightened our Monday!

What’s the History? ⏰ 😷

March 30 is National Doctors' Day to commemorate the first use of general anesthesia in surgery by Dr. Crawford W. Long on March 30, 1842, in Georgia. The date was chosen to honor this pivotal medical milestone, with the first observance held in 1933. It was officially signed into law in 1990 to express appreciation for physicians' dedication.

I couldn’t do what I do without anesthesia! Thank you to the many doctors working together to care for patients near and far!

Hormones ⚖️Hot Flashes🔥HRT

The goal to improve your quality of life and well being goes hand in hand with knowing what you’re putting in your body and understanding its impact. If moving forward with HRT, I recommend hormones that are regulated, tested and safe.

The article below is from a trusted physician, OB/GYN specialized in menopausal therapy. I urge you to scroll through it, and I’ve left some bullet points below. It’s a LOT! Take a breath, speak with your doctor. You can come up with a plan that is safe.

• “Bioidenticals”- this is a marketing term to imply safety. https://vajenda.substack.com/p/stop-using-body-identical-and-bioidentical

• “Natural”— Again a marketing term to imply safety and “goodness.” Almost every medication out there is synthesized in some fashion, and how it’s delivered matters. The only to be considered “natural” is Premarin.

• Let’s talk PELLETS 👀😳🛑

BioTe, a pellet company, reported $197.2 million in revenue in 2025. None of this has been invested in research or quality control.

‘…A doctor from the pellet company BioTe has publicly admitted instead of quality control, the company relies on hormone testing (an added expense that you the consumer bears) to “get the dose right”. Imagine a pharmaceutical company saying, “Look, we’re really not sure how much cancer drug is in your infusion, let’s just see how you do, check your labs, and go from there!” There would be outrage, so why is this acceptable for hormones and menopause?….’

It’s actually quite frightening. There are no back end safety protocols and adverse reactions go unreported. Again, no regulation.

There are far better and safer options. Discuss with your doctor, and/or seek consultation with a menopausal specialist.

Do you really know what compounded and "bioidentical" mean?

Hormones⚖️Hot Flashes🔥HRT😱
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
This is an important and complex topic, so let’s break it down.

The wondrous benefits of Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT) or Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) have been increasingly recognized and embraced with therapy being offered to many patients, even those with elevated risk of breast cancer. 😰

This is a challenging conversation that requires careful consideration and shared decision making.
I support HRT/MHT for many women, particularly those who are of average risk for breast cancer.

Improving your quality life and overall health is an incredibly important endeavor. I encourage you to do so in a way that comes with the greatest benefit and least risk to you.

The article below offers how to first begin exploring HRT/MHT. By knowing your own personal risks of breast cancer, cardiac risk and osteoporosis- it helps you to ask the right questions and get the best answers. 💪🏻

****If you do make the decision to begin HRT/MHT- be sure you’re properly screened for breast cancer! If the provider offering therapy doesn’t have this at the top of the to-do-list, caution ⚠️ ⛔️✋🏃‍♀️****

My next post will discuss avoiding the harmful options. (I’m looking at you pellets 👀 )

And a guide to choosing your estrogen

In 1849, Dr Elizabeth Blackwell became the first female physician in America. 160 years later, I graduated from the same medical school in Syracuse, NY. I am beyond proud to be a part of the 34% of physicians and only 20% of surgeons in this country that are women. I’m grateful to those who paved the way, allowing me to show my girl- the sky is the limit ❤️🙏

Today, we celebrate Dr Blackwell’s birthday as National Women Physicians Day 👏👏👏
