The Manchester Police Department is proud to offer the Senior Outreach Service, a free program designed to support the safety, independence, and well-being of senior citizens and disabled residents in our community.

Through weekly wellness check-ins, participants receive an added layer of support and peace of mind. If we are unable to reach a participant, their designated emergency contact will be notified, and when necessary, an officer may conduct an in-person welfare check.
To be eligible for the program, participants must be residents of the City of Manchester, be 60 years of age or older and/or disabled and complete the participation form.

Signing up is easy. Complete the participation form online or print the form https://www.cityofmanchestertn.gov/departments/police/community_relations/senior_outreach_service.php and bring it to the Manchester Police Department. Once your application is received, a member of the Manchester Police Department will contact you to schedule your introductory call and get you enrolled in the program.

If you have questions about the program, please give us a call. We look forward to serving our senior community and helping provide peace of mind for participants and their families.

Yesterday, we had a patient come in to pick up a prescription they normally pay about $35 for.

We billed their insurance like usual.

This time, the insurance came back with a copay of nearly $250.

Why?

According to the claim response, the patient needed to use a CVS pharmacy to receive the lower cost.

Think about that for a moment…

The medication didn’t suddenly become more expensive. Our pharmacy didn’t raise the price. Our pharmacy didn’t make more money on the claim; we actually lost money. The patient simply chose to fill the prescription at their local independent pharmacy, and their insurance benefit was structured in a way that made that choice cost them hundreds of dollars more.

This is what people mean when they talk about “pharmacy steering.”

Patients may technically have a “choice” of pharmacies, but when using one pharmacy costs $35 and using another costs nearly $250, how much of a choice is that really?

Independent pharmacies compete every day on service, convenience, relationships, and patient care. We’re happy to compete.

But it’s very difficult to compete when the company controlling the pharmacy benefit can financially push patients toward a preferred or affiliated pharmacy.

Patients deserve to know when this is happening.

So the next time your insurance tells you that you “have to” use a particular pharmacy or makes your prescription dramatically more expensive somewhere else, then ask questions.

Your pharmacy choice matters. And patients deserve a real choice. We will continue to choose you 💙 Thank you for the business!

💊 Do you know your kidney numbers?

If you have kidney disease or decreased kidney function, please make sure your pharmacist knows, and, if possible, know your most recent eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate).

Why does this matter?

Your kidneys help remove many medications from your body. When kidney function is reduced, certain medications may:

• Need a lower dose
• Need to be taken less often
• Require closer monitoring
• Or sometimes need to be avoided altogether

Your eGFR gives your healthcare team important information about how well your kidneys are filtering and can help your pharmacist determine whether your medications and doses are appropriate for your level of kidney function.

👉 At your next doctor’s visit, ask: “What is my eGFR?”

👉 At the pharmacy, tell us if you have kidney disease and share your most recent kidney function results when you can.

Our pharmacists, Sara, Brian, and Karson, want to help make sure your medications are safe and effective for YOU. 💙

**Never change or stop a medication on your own. Talk with your pharmacist or prescriber first.**

Baker Brothers Policy on Discount Cards:

We often get questions about prescription discount cards, so we wanted to explain why we don’t accept them at our pharmacy.

Many doctor’s offices automatically send discount card information along with prescriptions. This is done by their electronic prescribing software, and in many cases, the card isn’t something the provider intentionally selected. So if you see discount card information on your prescription, then it doesn’t necessarily mean it will work or that it’s your best option.

A few things to know:
• Prescription discount cards cannot be combined with your insurance. It’s either your insurance price or the discount card price, not both.
• Many discount cards charge pharmacies transaction fees, and reimbursement is often so low that filling the prescription actually costs the pharmacy money. Because of this, we’ve made the decision not to participate in these programs.

The good news? Our cash prices are often lower than many of the advertised discount card prices. If you don’t have insurance, then please ask us about our cash price. We’re always happy to help you find the most affordable option available.

Thank you for supporting your local independent pharmacy. Your support allows us to continue providing the personalized care and service our community deserves. ❤️
