Do You Know Your Juneteenth History?

Juneteenth commemorates a pivotal moment in American history and celebrates freedom, resilience, culture, and progress.

Here are five important facts about Juneteenth:

🖤 In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

❤️ On June 19, 1865, General Order No. 3 was announced in Texas, informing enslaved African Americans that they were free.

💚 Juneteenth has been celebrated annually since June 19, 1865.

⭐ Although celebrated within Black communities for generations, Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021.

✊ Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day.

Today, we honor the history, contributions, resilience, and achievements of Black Americans while recognizing the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice.

Today, on National HIV Long-Term Survivors Day, we honor the resilience, strength, and contributions of those who have been living with HIV for decades.

Long-term survivors have witnessed the evolution of HIV treatment, fought stigma, built communities, and helped pave the way for the progress we see today. Their stories remind us of the importance of compassion, advocacy, and continued education.
