Today marks the last day of Mental Health Awareness Month, but the conversation doesn’t end here. 💚
For nearly 15 years, running has been one of the constants in my life. Not because I love every mile, but because it’s always helped me clear my head. Some days I run for fitness. Most days I run because I feel better mentally when I do.
Some of my best ideas have come on runs. Some of my biggest decisions have been made on runs. And some of my hardest days have felt a little more manageable because I laced up my sneakers and got outside.
That’s one of the reasons mental health awareness is so important to me.
So much of what people carry is invisible. You can’t always see anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, loneliness, or the weight someone is carrying behind a smile. As someone who also lives with an invisible illness (shoutout to my fellow Lupus Warriors!), I know firsthand how easy it is to assume someone is “fine” simply because they look fine.
These sneakers were part of last year’s x collaboration, and I still found myself wearing them this May because the message behind them remains just as important. 💚🤍
Movement isn’t the answer to every mental health challenge, but for me, running has always been one of the ways I take care of my mental health.
As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, let this be your reminder to check in on your people, ask for help when you need it, and lead with a little extra grace for those in our community at large. You never know what someone may be navigating.
The month may be ending, but awareness, support, and conversations shouldn’t.
💚
