🚨 10 THINGS YOUR DOCTOR MAY NOT HAVE TOLD YOU ABOUT GLP-1s 🚨

1. 🧠 It’s not just your stomach.
GLP-1s act on your brain too.
They can turn down cravings and “food noise.”

2. 🍷 Your relationship with alcohol may change.
Some people report fewer alcohol cravings.
Researchers are studying why.

3. ❤️ The heart benefits may go beyond weight loss.
GLP-1s can reduce cardiovascular risk in certain patients.

4. 🫘 Your kidneys may benefit too.
Some GLP-1 therapies have demonstrated significant kidney benefits.

5. 🫀 They can help people with heart failure.
Especially certain patients with obesity and HFpEF.

6. 🔥 GLP-1 receptors are involved in inflammation.
And researchers are still uncovering what this means clinically.

7. 🦴 “GLP-1s destroy your bones” isn’t that simple.
Weight loss itself can affect bone density.
The medication isn’t the whole story.

8. 💪 “Lean mass loss” ≠ “muscle loss.”
That number you see on a scan isn’t all muscle.

9. 🧠 GLP-1s may change how rewarding food feels.
It’s not simply about feeling full.
Your brain’s reward system may be involved.

10. 🔄 Stopping the medication can bring the biology back.
Hunger can increase.
Weight regain can happen.
That doesn’t mean you “failed.”

GLP-1s are changing how we think about metabolic disease. 🧬

And honestly?
We’re still learning what these medications can do.

🦴Bone Health and GLP medications 💊

A common misconception is that GLP-1 medications directly cause osteoporosis.

Current evidence does not show that GLP-1 receptor agonists increase the risk of osteoporosis when used appropriately; however, rapid weight loss without adequate protein intake, resistance exercise, and sufficient calcium and vitamin D can contribute to bone and muscle loss.

In fact, obesity itself is associated with poor bone quality and a higher risk of certain fractures despite higher bone mineral density. Patients taking GLP-1 therapy should focus on preserving bone health through proper nutrition, regular strength training, weight-bearing exercise, and appropriate monitoring when clinically indicated https://doi.org/10.1111/dom.16541

7/2024—->7/2026

People often assume that weight loss is simply about eating less and exercising more. If that were true, my story would have been very different.

After having my second baby, I experienced postpartum complications that led to significant weight gain. I did everything I was “supposed” to do—I followed a healthy diet, trained consistently, and exercised at a high level. As many of you know, I’m a hybrid athlete, so lack of effort was never the issue. Despite all of that, the weight wouldn’t budge.

It wasn’t until I started a GLP-1 medication that my body finally responded. The medication gave me the metabolic support I needed to lose the weight I had been fighting so hard to lose. After using it for a short period, I was able to transition off the medication and have maintained my weight through balanced nutrition, strength training, and regular exercise.

This journey completely changed the way I view obesity. It’s not simply a matter of willpower—it’s a complex, chronic disease influenced by hormones, metabolism, genetics, and environmental factors. While nutrition and exercise are the foundation of good health, for many people they aren’t enough on their own. Evidence-based medications can be the tool that helps your body respond the way it should.

This is one of the biggest reasons Katie and I decided to start Metabolic Health Solutions. We’ve both personally experienced the challenges of weight loss, and we know how frustrating it is to feel like you’re doing everything right without seeing results. We wanted to create a practice where patients feel heard, understood, and supported—not judged.

At Metabolic Health Solutions, we don’t believe in quick fixes. We believe in identifying the root causes affecting your metabolic health and creating an individualized plan that may include nutrition, exercise, lifestyle changes, and, when appropriate, medication. Our goal is to help you improve your health, build sustainable habits, and achieve long-term success.

Sometimes the answer isn’t working harder. Sometimes it’s finally giving your body the support it needs so that all of your hard work can pay off. ❤️
