Apparently baby me had a very specific career plan 👶🏻🧫

SO many of you have asked how to become an embryologist, so here’s my answer from inside the IVF lab.

In the U.S., start with a science degree, then get yourself into an IVF lab and learn from the people doing the work. The training takes time, the details matter, and embryos do not take weekends off. But getting to help create families? I still think it’s the most extraordinary job. 🤍

I added some training centers to the video for those of you looking for a place to start. And if your goal is to become a lab director, that’s a further career path with additional qualifications.

“Day 6, 4BB” can sound like the lab has handed you your exact chance of having a baby. It hasn’t.

The first thing I want to know is whether that embryo was PGT-A tested. Then I look at its grade and the day it developed. A Day 5 3BB may look like a 4BB or 5BB after another day in culture. And a BB? It can absolutely make a baby.

This may be the most satisfying part of IVF to watch 👀🥚

Before an egg can be used for ICSI, we have to remove its fluffy cloud of cumulus cells—a process called egg stripping, or denudation.

Enzyme, st****er pipettes (yes, that’s really the name 😏), and a VERY gentle touch…until the egg finally reveals itself.

And these little eggies? Almost all mature! 🙌
