🍂 Can you feel fall creeping in?
The cooler days, cozy meals, and all those beautiful fall fruits and vegetables starting to show up at the grocery store. 🍎🎃
Apples, pears, sweet potatoes, squash, Brussels sprouts... they're all delicious, but did you know they each offer something a little different nutritionally?
These seasonal favorites provide fiber, vitamins, minerals, and naturally occurring plant compounds that interact with our bodies in different ways.
🍎 Apples and pears contain fiber and polyphenols that can interact with the gut microbiome.
🎃 Sweet potatoes and winter squash get their beautiful orange color from carotenoids like beta-carotene.
🥬 Brussels sprouts contain glucosinolates, which can be converted into compounds such as sulforaphane.
And that's one reason, variety matters.
Instead of looking for one “superfood,” try enjoying a mix of fruits and vegetables throughout the week. Each plant brings its own unique combination of nutrients and compounds to the table. 🌱
So, what's making its way onto your fall grocery list first? 🍎🎃🍠🥬
