Pranayama, or breathing techniques, is the most important part of your yoga practice. Postures, or asana, can break up tension patterns in the body, but without proper breathing, they're just weird gymnastics. Deep breathing reduces anxiety, stimulates the rest-and-digest response, clears brain fog, lowers blood pressure, and aids sleep. People have told me that long after they've stopped practicing postures, they're still benefiting from the breathing techniques they learned in class. Don't hold your breath! Come and re-learn how to breathe!
