While occasional drooling can happen at any age, frequent or persistent drooling beyond the toddler years may be a sign that something is interfering with normal oral function. It isn't necessarily a problem with how much saliva a child produces. In many cases, the issue is the child's ability to maintain an appropriate lip posture, manage saliva, or swallow it consistently.
