"Aggressive" behavior can be a common concern for children who have a trauma background, high sensory needs, or chronic stress. Keep in mind, when your child is in this state, they are just trying to survive. Work with your child's OT to find strategies to improve your child's feelings of safety across all settings.

May is Trauma Awareness Month. ❤️‍🩹

When a child doesn't have the words to communicate the impact of stress, their nervous system can speak through their behavior. Trauma isn't always a major, obvious, physical incident. It can simply be another word for stress - how the body and nervous system respond when stress feels too big to manage.

Trauma Awareness creates opportunities for understanding and support. If your child seems more reactive or sensitive to stress, whether you know what the trigger is or not, talk with your child's therapist.
