Take a moment and imagine this…

You receive a diagnosis that changes everything. Cancer.

You endure the surgeries, the chemotherapy, the radiation. You fight with everything you have. Then one day, you’re told the cancer has spread and there is no cure. Suddenly, life is measured differently—not in years, but in moments.

Working in hospice care and through Michigan Roots Mobile Lab has humbled me in ways I never thought possible. Every day, I am invited into some of the most vulnerable, sacred, and tender moments of people’s lives.

Not all of my patients are healthy. Not all of them are getting better.

I’ve witnessed families facing unimaginable circumstances. I’ve seen people walk into a hospital for what they thought was a routine concern, only to have their entire world turned upside down. I’ve seen individuals lose mobility, independence, and certainty in a matter of hours.

The reality is that life can change in an instant.

We spend so much time worrying about tomorrow that we forget today is a gift. Good health is a gift. The ability to walk, breathe deeply, hug our loved ones, laugh, work, and simply wake up each morning is a gift.

The people I serve have taught me more than any textbook ever could. Many have become like family to me. Their strength, courage, faith, and resilience leave a lasting impact on my heart.

This post isn’t meant to bring fear. It’s meant to bring perspective.

If you have your health today, be grateful for it. Take care of it. Don’t take it for granted. Tell the people you love that you love them. Extend grace. Choose kindness. Slow down long enough to appreciate the present moment because it’s the only one we’re promised.

My heart goes out to every patient and family currently walking through difficult diagnoses, hospice journeys, and life’s hardest seasons. I pray that God surrounds you with peace, comfort, and strength that surpasses all understanding.

Life is precious. Life is fragile. Life is short.

Let’s not forget to truly live it. ❤️

Sorry I’ve been a little quiet lately!

I’ve been busy collecting blood and specimens like a busy little bee 🐝—making my rounds, serving individuals, communities, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes throughout Southwest Michigan.

Today, I’m spending time at one of my favorite assisted living communities. The staff here are incredible, the residents are wonderful, and it always feels like a privilege to be welcomed through their doors.

I want to take a moment to give a huge shoutout to the CNAs, medication aides, nurses, MAs, and caregivers who show up every single day for those they serve. Before becoming a phlebotomist, I started my healthcare journey as a CNA, and I remember just how physically and emotionally demanding that work can be. It takes a special kind of person to care for others with compassion, patience, and dignity day after day.

Seeing the smiles on the residents’ faces today reminded me why I love what I do.

We had some pretty intense storms roll through Michigan last night, but today brought cooler temperatures, sunshine, and a beautiful reminder to slow down and appreciate the simple things.

Wishing everyone a peaceful day, and as always, thank you for allowing Michigan Roots Mobile Lab to serve our communities.
