🌿 A Little Clarification About the Future of Hands of Silk 🌿

I’ve been asked this question frequently lately, and especially today, so I thought it was time to clear the air! 😊

“Once you become a licensed herbalist, are you going to stop doing massage?” 💆‍♀️💆‍♂️

The answer is a very clear NO! ❤️

Massage has been such an important part of my life and career since 2007. I have been incredibly blessed to build a strong client base over the years, and I have no intention of walking away from the work I love or from the amazing clients who have supported me throughout this journey.

What IS changing is that I’m continuing to expand my education and the ways I can support people in their wellness journeys.

Once I complete my herbal studies and become licensed, I will be able to add herbal consultations and individualized herbal recommendations to what I offer. My hope is that this additional education will allow me to look at wellness from a more comprehensive perspective and support people in another way—alongside massage, not instead of it.

Think of it as adding another tool to the toolbox. 🌿✨

So, for everyone who has been wondering…

Yes, I will still be doing massage.
Yes, Hands of Silk is still your place for massage and recovery.
And in the future, there will simply be more ways for me to help support your overall wellness.

I’m incredibly excited about where this journey is taking me, and I’m grateful that I get to continue learning and growing while doing what I’ve loved for nearly two decades. ❤️

I wanted to share some things about myself that you may not know if we’ve only met through my job as a massage therapist at Hands of Silk Massage. First and foremost, I am the owner/parent of three adorable pets! I have two dogs, Lily and Klaus in addition to a recent member, my cat Verso. On top of that, I am an avid scuba diver, working on my dive master certification. Cupping Therapy is a beneficial tool! We do not allow "tools" to take over our job. We always include Cupping Therapy in Deep Tissue and/or Sports Massage!

Below are listed the myths and the truth's in order.

Cupping myths:

1) Cupping was 1st discovered during the 2016 Summer Olympics and was seen on Michael Phelps.

2) The darker the Cupping marks the more effective

3) Cupping marks hurt

4) Cupping just releases toxins

5) Cupping is a bruise

Cupping truth's

1) Cupping was discovered during B.C. time by the Egyptians and Chinese. There are drawings of Egyptians using cupping techniques on ea. other. There are a number of different types of Cupping materials. Silicone, plastic, glass, plastic, and bamboo are some of them. Hands Of Silk Massage received A LOT of phone calls in 2016 asking if we offered the "new Cupping technique".

2) The color of Cupping marks does not dictate the effectiveness of Cupping on our bodies! This is a misconception! We actually do NOT want Cupping marks to be crazy dark and can eliminate this by monitoring closely. Although, the dark color can happen from time-time for various reasons but again with monitoring it can be avoided "most" of the time.

3) Cupping marks are "sensitive" but do not truly hurt. Ex., when the shower water touches the Cupping marks, when someone touches your shoulder where there is a mark you will receive a reminder of where the marks are. The marks can last anyone from 24 hours-7 days.

4) Cupping creates a vacuum effect which brings more blood flow in return brings more oxygen, nutrients and cells to repair. Cupping releases stuck tissue, debris and scar tissue. In return it eliminates this waste via the Lymphatic System while helping to increase ROM (range of motion). Cupping is NOT for everyone. We at Hands Of Silk Massage and Wellness use silicone Cups and a high end Cupping machine (we can control the intensity a lot more with the machine).

5) Cupping is very intentional v.s. a typical "bruise". A Cupping mark gradually gets lighter and lighter before it disappears, a bruise goes through every shade of the rainbow before it disappears.
