The cascade of interventions is how many birth stories go from a mommas dream birth to becoming voiceless during their labor.
When one intervention leads to another, choices can feel taken away, the body overridden, and the experience becomes something to endure and fear instead of something to own and enjoy Godās gift. This puts lots of stress on momās nervous system and babyās.
An elective induction isnāt just one intervention it leads to many more interventions. Labor contraction drugs like pitocin and cytotec make stronger and longer contractions than natural ones. Which then leads to an epidural shot for the pain which contains fentanyl (this crosss the placenta to baby). All this stress puts the mommaās nervous system in fight or flight mode which can stall labor because the nervous system interrupts the environment not safe for a baby. This is when C-section, forceps, vacuum extraction occurs putting lots of physical stress on babyās nervous system (the perfect storm) as well as permanent scar tissue damage to mommaās pelvic floor which can cause complications for future pregnancies.š¤°
Every momma deserves informed consent, support, and respect at every step of their birth plan. š¤
I donāt want you to feel guilty about anything you didnāt know. Itās now about moving forward with information, learning more, ask questions, sharing stories and figuring out why kids are chronically sicker than ever!š¦¬
