"I just need a flea pill! Why do I have to bring my pet in?"

This is a common phrase heard here at SAH, and a big source of contention for many clients.

The answer? BECAUSE IT'S THE LAW.

~In Indiana, veterinarians must comply with both federal FDA regulations and state laws (under Indiana Code § 25-38.1-4-5) requiring a valid Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) before prescribing or dispensing any prescription drugs
~Clients must bring their pet(s) at least once every 12 months for a routine exam to maintain a valid VCPR
~Prescribing or dispensing prescription drugs without a valid VCPR violates state veterinary practice acts and federal rules.
~State licensing boards can penalize vets who are non compliant with fines, probation, suspension, or permanent revocation of their veterinary license

Flea & tick medications sold at SAH are prescription items. Many over-the-counter options are readily available if you are not able to maintain a valid VCPR. Our staff is happy to discuss your options.

Becoming upset and disrespecting staff over this will not change anything...SAH will continue to follow this law.
