Where are you in your grief today?

I am truly wrestling. My service dog Shadow died very unexpectedly last week. Shadow was so mch more than a pet or a companion. As a SD he was with me 24 hours a day 7 days a week for many years. He saved my life when I felt I couldn't go on anymore. He helped me feel safe enough to be in public again. He helped me recover from severe PTSD and abandonment.

And now he's gone. I go from doing pretty well to having a simple reminder knock me off my feet again and again.

That's how it is with grief. It’s not a straight line. It’s an unpredictable wave that rolls in, sometimes when we least expect it.

Because CoachRev is built on walking through the dark places together, I want to practice what I teach and be honest about my own pain. I am in the thick of it right now.

If you are riding a wave of your own today, please know you aren't alone. Whether you are doing okay, completely knocked off your feet, or somewhere in between—where are you in your grief today? I'm here, and I'm listening

Grief doesn’t have a timeline. Healing doesn’t mean “getting over it.” Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is tell our story and allow ourselves to be heard.

I recently joined Angela on the 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙣 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙡’𝙨 𝙅𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙮 podcast to talk about navigating death, grief, resilience, and the emotional realities first responders face every day. We discussed the importance of processing emotions instead of suppressing them, how grief looks different for every person, and why support should meet people where they are.

I also shared the story of Shadow, my former service dog turned crisis response dog, and how he helped bring comfort and connection during one of the most heartbreaking tragedies I’ve witnessed.

If you’ve experienced loss, support others through grief, or simply want to better understand the human side of resilience, I hope this conversation speaks to you.
