Think of fascia like a sponge.
When a sponge is dry and stiff, it doesn’t bend or glide very well. With moisture and movement, it becomes softer and more pliable.
Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles and other structures throughout the body. It contains a significant amount of water and helps tissues move and glide in relation to one another.
When we spend long periods sitting, repeat the same movements, or hold chronic muscular tension, some areas may begin to feel stiff, restricted, or less mobile.
Massage may help support:
* comfortable tissue movement and glide
* local circulation and fluid movement
* relaxation of muscular tension
* mobility and range of motion
* a greater sense of ease during movement
Hydration is important too, but drinking water is only part of the picture. Regular movement also helps keep tissues active and mobile.
I like to think of healthy fascia as being more like a soft, flexible sponge than a dry, rigid one.
The goal isn’t just to “loosen a muscle.” It’s to support more comfortable, fluid movement throughout the body.
