🚩 Just because feeding was established doesn’t mean it will stay exactly the same forever.

Babies aren’t static, and neither is feeding. What worked last month may need adjustments this month, and that’s completely normal.

If feeding suddenly feels harder, don’t assume you’re failing. It may simply be time for a new strategy that matches where your baby is developmentally.

That’s why ongoing support can be so valuable throughout your feeding journey. 🤍

Galactagogues can be helpful for some families, but they aren’t magic. Before adding supplements, herbs, or medications, make sure you’re addressing the reason milk production may be struggling in the first place.

The right plan starts with understanding the whole picture. 🤍

✨Let’s Talk About Galactagogues✨
Because the internet will have you buying every cookie, tea, tincture, and capsule in a 2am feeding spiral. 🫠

Galactagogues are foods, herbs, or medications that may help support milk production for some parents. Think things like:
🌿 Moringa
🌾 Oats
💊 Prescription medications

But here’s the part that gets skipped too often:
Galactagogues are supportive tools, not magic fixes.

If milk removal isn’t effective or frequent enough, adding supplements without addressing the root issue can feel like pouring water into a bucket with a hole in it. Sometimes low supply is connected to:
▫️Latch or transfer concerns
▫️Pumping issues or incorrect fl**ge sizing
▫️Hormonal or medical factors
▫️Feeding schedules that aren’t sustainable
▫️Stress, exhaustion, or inadequate support

And sometimes? The supplement itself causes side effects or makes things worse. 🌪️

Before spending a small fortune on lactation snacks that taste like sweetened mulch bars, it’s worth taking a step back and looking at the full picture. 🤍

The goal isn’t just “more milk.”
The goal is a feeding plan that actually works for you and your baby.

Postpartum can feel really overstimulating really fast.
The feeding. The lack of sleep. The constant decisions. The pressure to “enjoy every moment.” 😵‍💫

A few reminders if you’re in the thick of it:

🤍 Rest still counts even if sleep isn’t perfect
🤍 Feed your baby first, the routine usually follows
🤍 Eat. Hydrate. Sit down occasionally.
🤍 Small wins are still wins
🤍 You don’t have to entertain everyone right now
🤍 Support matters more than trying to “push through” alone

And no… Aunt Karen does not automatically get visitation rights immediately postpartum. 🙂

You are allowed to protect your peace while adjusting to motherhood. That doesn’t make you selfish. It makes you supported.

Perinatal OCD doesn’t always look like what people expect.

Sometimes it looks like:
• checking if the baby is breathing… again
• avoiding stairs while holding the baby
• intrusive thoughts that feel terrifying
• replaying “what if” scenarios on loop
• feeling ashamed to tell anyone what’s happening

And one of the hardest parts?
Many parents with Perinatal OCD are deeply aware that the thoughts feel upsetting and unwanted. That distress is important. 💛

These thoughts do not mean you want to harm your baby.
They mean your nervous system is sounding alarms constantly, even when you’re doing everything you can to protect your child.

You are not failing.
You are not “crazy.”
And you deserve support that looks at both feeding and mental health together.

At Mama Mentor, I believe caring for parents means caring for the whole picture. 🌿

The office will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. We are deeply grateful for their courage, their service, and the families who carry that sacrifice forward each day.

As we spend time with those we love, may we also take a moment to thank God for the freedoms we so often take for granted and pray for comfort, peace, and strength over the hearts of military families across our nation.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13

Wishing you a peaceful and meaningful Memorial Day. ❤️🤍💙
