Lupus During Pregnancy News: A recent study showed a dramatic, 10-fold increased risk for a liver condition called intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) in women exposed to azathioprine (AZA) during their pregnancy. AZA is commonly prescribed for lupus, and this study is not meant to discourage its use. It only suggests that pregnant women on AZA should have their liver functions closely monitored! As always, all patients should check with their healthcare providers before making any changes to their treatments.
