How amazing is this?! 🤯

A 2026 study followed more than 5,400 women between the ages of 63 and 99—and the women with the highest strength levels had about a 30% lower risk of death than those with the lowest strength levels.

Even when their overall activity levels were similar, the stronger women were more likely to live longer.

Ladies, this is why I will never stop talking about strength training—especially in midlife. I am preaching to myself.

We aren’t lifting weights just to change how our bodies look. We are training to protect our brains, hearts, bones, mobility and independence. We’re building bodies that can carry us into the next several decades strong, capable and fully engaged in the lives God has given us.

It is never too late to begin and you do not need hours in a gym. You simply need to start with the next right thing and stay consistent. 💪🏼

Want help getting started with strength training at home? Comment STRONG and I’ll send you a workout.

Okay, okay… I’m slightly biased. 😂

Run if you love running. Do Pilates. Take the yoga class. Walk your heart out.

But after 40? Please pick up the weights, too. 💪🏼

Here’s why.

As we move through our 40s and into perimenopause and menopause, estrogen begins to fluctuate and eventually decline. At the same time, age-related losses in muscle mass, strength and bone density become increasingly important.

And muscle is SO much more than something that makes your arms look good in a tank top.

Muscle helps support your metabolism.
It improves glucose disposal and insulin sensitivity.
It supports your bones and joints.
It helps you maintain balance, mobility and resilience.

And perhaps most importantly?

Muscle protects your independence.

The decision to get stronger at 46 isn’t just about the body you want at 46.

You’re training for 56. 66. 76. 86.

For carrying your own groceries. Getting your suitcase into the overhead bin. Playing on the floor with grandbabies and getting back up. Traveling. Hiking. Living in your own home. Doing the things you love without constantly needing someone else to do them for you.

That future woman is being built right now.

And you don’t need to become a gym girl overnight.

Start with 10–20 minutes.
Start with dumbbells at home.
Start 2–3 days a week.

Just start building strength.

Comment STRENGTH below and let’s chat about where you are right now. I’ll help you figure out where to start and get you set up with workouts you can actually do.

At least for me, this is very true.

Time with God grounds me.
Time strengthening my body reminds me I’m capable—and that this body is worth caring for.

But I could easily add a third investment:

Whole food nutrition.

Food has the power to nourish, repair, energize, and support the body God gave me. And when I fuel myself well, I have more energy to show up for the other two—to move my body, serve my people, think clearly, and live with intention.

None of these require perfection. They require investment. A little time, consistently given to the things that matter.

And the return? Pretty incredible.

What would you add to the list? Or did I nail it? 👇🏼

Yes. I work in both worlds—medical care and preventative health—and I’m grateful for both.

But here’s what I wish more women understood:

You have to become an active participant in your own health.

That A1C that was 5.5… then 5.7… and now it’s 6.0?
Don’t just watch it creep up year after year.

Your healthcare team can order the labs. Monitor the numbers. Diagnose disease. Prescribe medication when appropriate.

But so much of what happens between those appointments is in your hands.

Walk after meals.
Build muscle.
Prioritize protein + fiber.
Sleep.
Manage stress.
Eat mostly whole foods.
Know your numbers—and ask questions when they start moving in the wrong direction.

You don’t need to overhaul your entire life tomorrow.

You need to choose your next right thing and keep choosing it.

And maybe your next right thing is simply walking more. 👟

That’s exactly what we’re doing in September—building the habit of daily movement together, one step at a time.
