🍩💙 Happy National Donut Day! 💙🍩

Today we’re celebrating pure joy in pastry form for National Donut Day — the one day when sprinkles count as a food group and frosting is basically self-care.

At Muddy Creek Pediatrics, we fully support (in moderation):
✨ Jelly-filled victories
✨ Powdered sugar “oops” moments
✨ Chocolate glazed happiness
✨ And the eternal truth that donuts taste better when shared
(or not… we don’t judge)

Just a friendly reminder from your friends at Muddy Creek Pediatrics: balance is key… but today, joy gets the bigger slice of the pie (or donut 🍩).

So grab a donut, share a smile, and let the day be a little extra sweet. (In moderation of course!)

🚲💙 World Bicycle Day at Muddy Creek Pediatrics 💙🚲

Today we’re celebrating World Bicycle Day — a reminder that bikes aren’t just transportation, they’re tiny freedom machines on two wheels ✨

At Muddy Creek Pediatrics, we love seeing kids roll into confidence one pedal at a time:
🌈 Building strength, balance, and coordination
🌈 Encouraging outdoor play and healthy hearts
🌈 Boosting independence (and a little joy-fueled wind-in-your-hair magic)
🌈 Creating family memories that don’t require a screen or a charger

So whether it’s training wheels, tricycles, or that “I swear I’ve got it” wobble phase… today is a perfect excuse to ride, explore, and celebrate movement.

💡 Safety reminder: helmets on, straps snug, and adventure fully unlocked.

💙 June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month 💙

“Be strong” should never mean “suffer in silence.” 🧠

Boys and men are often taught to hide emotions or push through stress alone, which can make it harder to ask for help when they’re struggling. Mental health challenges are real, common, and nothing to be ashamed of.

At Muddy Creek Pediatrics, we want our boys, teens, dads, coaches, and caregivers to know:
✨ Talking about feelings is healthy
✨ Asking for support is courageous
✨ Mental health matters at every age
✨ No one has to carry hard things alone

This month, let’s replace “man up” with “check in.” 💙

If your child or teen is struggling emotionally, we’re here to help. Schedule an appointment or screening at muddycreekpeds.com.

💚 Talking About Mental Health with Children 💚

Big feelings can live in small people—and they deserve space to be heard. 🌱🧠

At Muddy Creek Pediatrics, we encourage families to make mental health conversations a normal part of everyday life, just like talking about school, friends, or how the body feels.

✨ Gentle ways to start the conversation:
• “How are you feeling today?” (and really pause to listen)
• Name emotions together—happy, worried, frustrated, excited
• Let them know all feelings are okay, even the hard ones
• Use stories, play, or drawing to help them express themselves 🎨
• Remind them: they are never alone in what they feel

You don’t need perfect words—just a safe space and a listening heart. 💚

If you have concerns about your child’s emotional well-being, we’re here to help. Visit muddycreekpeds.com to schedule a screening or appointment.

Here’s how talking with your child about their feelings can help them feel safe sharing and when to ask the pediatrician for help. The AAP recommends swim lessons as a layer of protection against drowning. Many kids will be ready to start lessons at age one. Here are a few things to keep in mind while choosing a program:

1. Are the instructors trained and certified through a nationally recognized learn-to-swim curriculum? Are there lifeguards on duty who have current CPR and First Aid certifications?

2. Do they teach good safety habits in, on and near water?

3. Do they teach your child what to do if they end up in the water unexpectedly?

4. Do they offer adapted aquatics for children with special health needs and developmental disabilities?

Protecting a newborn means being mindful, respectful, and putting the baby’s health first. Visitors should make sure they are up to date on vaccines like TDAP, flu, and COVID before meeting a newborn, practice good hygiene like hand washing, and postpone the visit if they feel sick. Taking precautions before meeting new babies helps keep their first days safe, calm, and healthy.
