💜 September is NICU Awareness Month

The smallest feet can leave the biggest footprints on our hearts. 👣

As a nurse who has had the privilege of caring for NICU babies and their families, this month holds a special place in my heart. I’ve witnessed the incredible strength of these tiny fighters, the courage of their parents, and the dedication of the NICU teams who care for them every single day.

NICU journeys can be filled with so many emotions—hope, fear, uncertainty, milestones, setbacks, and moments worth celebrating. No family should have to walk that journey feeling alone.

This month, we honor the babies who fought and continue to fight, the families standing beside them, and the healthcare teams supporting them every step of the way.

To every NICU mama and family: your strength matters, your story matters, and your journey matters.

🌸 Cluster feeding is NORMAL! 🌸

If your baby suddenly wants to nurse again… and again… and AGAIN 😅 you may start wondering, “Am I making enough milk?”

Frequent feeding—sometimes every 30–90 minutes—can be completely normal, especially during growth spurts. 🤱🤍

Cluster feeding helps stimulate your breasts and sends the message to your body: Baby needs more milk! It does not automatically mean you have a low milk supply.

So mama, if it feels like your baby has been attached to you all day… you’re not necessarily doing anything wrong. Your baby may simply be helping your body adjust to their growing needs. 🌸

✨ Your baby isn’t trying to empty you—your baby is helping your body make more.

Save this for those cluster-feeding days and share it with another breastfeeding mama who needs the reassurance. 🤍

What an honor it was to witness this today. 🤍🌸

Seeing Hidalgo County officially proclaim August 2026 as National Breastfeeding Month was such a meaningful reminder of the importance of supporting, educating, and empowering mothers throughout their breastfeeding journeys.

As a lactation consultant, it makes my heart so happy to see our community recognize the importance of breastfeeding support and the role lactation professionals play in educating, encouraging, advocating for, and walking alongside families through every stage of their feeding journey. 🤱💕

Grateful to be part of a community that continues to uplift and support our mamas and babies. 🌸

That's why the Maternity Center at South Texas Health System Edinnburg and STHS McAllen are proud to host its 4th Annual Baby Bump & Beyond Expo, designed to connect expectant and new mothers with the information, resources and support they need to navigate pregnancy, childbirth and the early stages of parenthood with confidence.
