December 1st is World Aids day. Here are some current stats:

• 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV.
• 13% of people with HIV don’t know they have it.
• Over 30,000 new HIV diagnoses occur each year in the U.S.
• African Americans and Latinos are disproportionately affected, representing the highest rates of new diagnoses.
• Early treatment works: People who take HIV medication daily and reach undetectable = untransmittable (U=U) cannot transmit HIV sexually.
• 1 in 5 new infections are in young adults ages 13–24.
• The South accounts for over half of all new HIV diagnoses in the U.S.
