Food companies have figured out that marketing claims sell products.

So now we see things like:

๐ŸŒฑ Plant-Based
โค๏ธ Heart Healthy
๐ŸŒพ Whole Grain
๐Ÿ”ฅ Keto Friendly
๐ŸŒฟ All Natural
โœจ Made With Real Ingredients

But a claim on the front of a package doesn't tell you whether a food is healthy.

The rules for many of these claims are surprisingly lenient. A product can check a marketing box and still be highly processed junk food.

Before you put it in your cart, flip it over and read the ingredient list.

๐Ÿ” Is it food... or a food product?

Marketing claims are designed to get your attention.

Ingredients tell the real story.

Texas is investigating protein powder manufacturers after independent testing raised concerns about heavy metals, including lead and cadmium, in some popular products.

One finding that caught my attention:

Plant-based protein powders averaged about 9 times more lead than whey-based products and about 2 times more lead than beef-based products.

This is one reason I'm picky about protein powders.

Personally, I prefer beef or whey protein powders without plant protein blends. I also look for simple ingredient lists and products that align with my animal-based approach to nutrition.

๐Ÿฆ  My first batch of L. reuteri yogurt was a success!

First reaction?

It smells a little... footy. ๐Ÿ˜†

Not bad. Just different. Kind of like when you handle Parmesan cheese or cured meats. Definitely more of a cultured dairy smell than traditional yogurt.

I started with a teaspoon all by itself, and honestly, it was way less tangy than I expected. In fact, it was surprisingly mild. Almost flavorless.

The real test was my 17 year old. She added a teaspoon to her chocolate protein shake and reported that it made the shake creamier without really changing the taste. I'll call that a win! ๐ŸŽ‰

So now comes the fun part...
