Most people think heart problems only show up as chest pain or a medical emergency. In reality, subtle changes in breathing can sometimes provide clues that the heart and lungs are not working as efficiently.
A simple observation:
Ask them to take a deep breath and hold it for up to 10 seconds.
Pay attention if they:
• Release the breath quickly
• Start coughing
• Appear uncomfortable
• Gasp when breathing normally again
Early recognition and proactive care can play an important role in supporting quality of life as we age.
