The STEMI program in Medford is one of the most notable cardiovascular success stories in the nation.

A STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) is the most severe type of heart attack, caused by a sudden complete blockage of a coronary artery. The key to survival is restoring blood flow as quickly as possible.

The STEMI program centered at Asante was spearheaded by Southern Oregon Cardiology cardiologist Dr. Brian Gross in partnership with Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center and regional EMS agencies such as Mercy Flights. The program utilizes a highly coordinated system that activates paramedics, emergency department teams, and the cardiac catheterization lab simultaneously when a STEMI is identified, ensuring rapid treatment and seamless care.

The program has received ongoing national recognition for its dramatic reduction in death rates from heart attacks.

What Makess Us Different?
❤️EMS performs and transmits ECGs in the field.
❤️STEMI activation occurs before the patient arrives.
❤️The cath lab team is mobilized immediately.
❤️Patients are taken directly for emergency coronary intervention whenever possible.

We are deeply grateful to the Mercy Flights professionals who serve as the first link in the STEMI chain of survival. Their skill, dedication, and ability to make critical decisions under pressure have helped save countless lives and are an essential part of this program's success.

Two Mercy Flights Critical Care Flight team members were recently recognized by Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center for their role in a life-saving response.

Pictured below are Shayla, a Critical Care Flight Paramedic, and Casey, a Critical Care Flight Nurse, alongside Taylor, our Flight Supervisor.

During a recent mission, our Critical Care Flight Team transported a patient experiencing a heart attack, ensuring rapid access to advanced cardiac care. Their seamless coordination and expert care led to a full recovery, demonstrating the impact of timely, specialized intervention.

We’re grateful for the strong collaboration across our region that helps make outcomes like this possible when every minute matters.

Great work to the crews and care teams involved in this save! 🎉

Last week we recognized the Patient Access and Clinical Support teams who help make care possible. From the first phone call or front desk check-in, to scheduling appointments and procedures, coordinating referrals, and managing medical records behind the scenes. These teams are often the ones answering questions, helping find the earliest available appointments, tracking down important information from different offices, and making sure everything is in place so your visit can happen as smoothly as possible. While you may not always see all the work happening behind the scenes, they are a vital part of your care experience. We are deeply grateful for their dedication, kindness, and commitment to helping patients get the care they need. ♥️

We’re guided by a simple commitment: show up for our community. Strengthening cardiac services helps ensure that lifesaving care is available here, without people having to leave the region they love ❤️

Exciting news! Southern Oregon Cardiology and Asante have signed a multi-year extension of their co-management relationship. The long-standing partnership enables Asante to continue expanding cardiac services for southern Oregon.

“We are greatly appreciative of Asante’s commitment to excellence in cardiovascular care across our region building on a strong foundation over decades. Generations of family members have trusted us with their heart care and our outcomes speak for themselves on a regional and national level. We look forward to expanding cardiac services at Rogue Regional Medical Center, allowing us to save more lives across the valley and our outlying regions,” says Nathan Funk, MD, Southern Oregon Cardiology.

We are so proud of our teams 💙 They have just completed their 500th WATCHMAN procedure! This important achievement highlights not only the expertise and commitment of our team but also the significant advancements of cardiac care in Southern Oregon.

Electrophysiologists play a crucial role in cardiology, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. Their expertise is essential in guiding procedures like the WATCHMAN, which helps patients with atrial fibrillation reduce the risk of stroke.

Here’s to many more milestones ahead! 🫀

Recently, we celebrated the 500th WATCHMAN Implant procedure at Rogue Regional Medical Center! This minimally invasive procedure can help reduce strokes for heart patients. Great work, team!
