More people with congenital heart disease (CHD) are living into adulthood—and that means the need for specialized adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) care is growing.

A new Cardiovascular Business article and video interview explores why dedicated ACHD programs are becoming increasingly important, featuring insights from Dan Halpern, MD, Director of the NYU Adult Congenital Heart Program. Dr. Halpern highlights the importance of multidisciplinary care, collaboration between general cardiologists and ACHD specialists, and consistent standards for comprehensive ACHD programs. ACHA Accreditation has helped establish those standards, including the staffing and support services needed to care for the complex needs of adults living with CHD.

At ACHA, we're working to help ensure that people with CHD have access to the specialized care they need throughout their lives.

More than 95% of congenital heart patients now survive into adulthood, leaving clinicians with much more ground to cover than ever before. Providing high-quality care for these patients requires specialty care as well as collaborations with general cardiologists.

🫀 Stroke research, education, and care matters to the congenital heart disease (CHD) community. Adults with CHD are at higher risk for stroke than the average American and, strikingly, are at much higher risk at younger ages than people without a CHD—which makes prevention, timely treatment, and specialized care especially important.

This is why the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) is proud to endorse the Stroke Act, legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján, which would strengthen stroke research, emergency response, rehabilitation, telestroke care, data collection, and public education. As advocates for the CHD community, ACHA believes that improving access to high-quality care and advancing policies that support better health outcomes are critical to helping people with CHD thrive throughout their lives.

What happens when you combine good food, great friends and a passion for the congenital heart disease (CHD) community? ❤️

ACHA Patient & Family Advisory Board (PFAB) Co-Chair Meredith Rahn-Oakes hosted a Turkish breakfast fundraiser through ACHA Your Way and raised $1,500 to support our mission! Meredith turned something personal to her into an opportunity to give back.

That’s what makes ACHA Your Way special: Your fundraiser can be as unique as you are. Share your experiences, interests, and passions with the people in your life, and make an impact for the CHD community along the way.
