Waiting, extensions and uncertainty. The following months involved a lot of waiting and very little communication from the lender. Several extensions to the purchase agreement were made, patience was grown and nerves started showing (with both myself and the seller) with each passing week. One day, it would look like everything was falling into place. The next, it looked like it would surely fall apart. Two days before what was the expiration date of what was supposed to be the final extension, the lender revealed a clerical error and requested another extension. It didn't look like that would be agreed to by all parties, but at the last possible moment, the extension was granted and a few days later, the loan went through.

I cannot move on without a HUGE thank you to all of the people involved in praying throughout the process. Em began praying, when lead by the spirit, a 2.5 months before the building was on the market. Jeanne, Elizabeth, Rachael, Erin, Shannon, Kelsey, Maddi, Jaimie, Jen, Jess, Gay, Amanda, Julie, and more joined in prayer throughout the process.

Lawyer, Lenders and contracts. The following months were a whirlwind. Mountains of paperwork, gathering financial documents, consulting a lawyer and applying for loans.

Our first loan option came back with their decision: Not enough business history.

With the second option, we were initially approved, but some changes to the SBA program in June meant this option... wasn't an option.

We were down to the last possibility, Ohio's Women's Business Enterprise Loan. Once all of the documents were reviewed, Radiant Joy was pre-approved and I made a trip to Columbus to be interviewed by the Ohio Board of Department of Development. There were a lot of questions about finances, business structure and vision and at the end of it all, Radiant Joy was approved unanimously.

I can't talk about this trip to Columbus without talking about the gal who drove down with me. I have a hard time describing my relationship with my midwife assistant, Nichole... a best friend, a midwife assistant, a voice of reason, a right hand, a person who quietly keeps Radiant Joy afloat. Radiant Joy wouldn't be what it is without her. We left right from a birth where we were up all night and managed an emergency together. We sat in quiet most of the way down. When we got close and the conversation turned to the loan and the building, as she always does, Nichole was encouraging and supportive. And when she found out that they loved the project and unanimously approved the loan, her reply was essentially, "of course they did." She celebrated with me and shared in the joy of that day.

As I was preparing to make the offer, I decided to write a letter alongside of it. "...At Radiant Joy, we see women the way God sees them: Through eyes of love. Our mission is to walk alongside women as they step into motherhood, helping them reconnect with God, themselves, and their community. We believe that when women are supported during pregnancy and early parenting, it makes a generational impact on the world!"

Before sending it, I shared the letter with a few people for feedback. And a couple of the. Said the same thing.

Remove God.

"It's safer." "You don't know the faith of the person selling the property."

But, that was not an option. I wanted to be clear about our vision and mission. And that vision can't be separated from God, who He is and the care He desires for families.

So it stayed.

The offer was accepted within 2 hours.

The next step was crunching numbers, brainstorming how the property could be used and deciding if it would be a step that our family wanted to take on. It was time to test the "Yes" with the one God gave me.

Generally, Vince is the reasonable and practical one in our marriage. He is gifted with numbers, details, and making dreams actually happen. He's also who I go to for a reality check. He has no problem saying no, and probably prefers it. So when he took in all of the information and said, "I absolutely hate what I am about to say, but I don't see a reason not to do this." I knew that we were supposed to move forward.

I can't move forward in this story without a huge thank you to my husband. He was 100% supportive while 100% uncomfortable. I leaned on his faith when I grew weary with the 8 month process. He was always ready to help with paperwork, editing documents, and walking out the crazy experience of buying commercial property. I absolutely love him and am so thankful God gave us each other.

Seven days later, I met Sheila, a realtor at Gerspacher, at the place to check it out. There was a small waiting room, 2 bathrooms, several office spaces and a basement. Upon walking in felt a still, small voice say, "Yes." Little did I know how much I would be leaning back on that yes, learning to rely on a quiet faith when all odds are stacked against you.

I can't move forward in the story without thanking Sheila, the real estate agent who guided the process. She was the perfect blend of wisdom, diligence, compassion, and warmth. In moments of overwhelm or frustration, she was a steady presence, offering clarity, encouragement, prayerful calm, and answers exactly when they were needed.
