Is your loved one’s
pain medicine ordered “as needed” or is it a scheduled dose?

This can make a big difference in their recovery from an injury or fall.

If the medication is ordered “as needed” they are only getting the medicine if they know to request it or if they answer the pain questions correctly.

Find out how the medication is ordered and advocate for scheduled medicine - if appropriate.

Hi everyone, 👋

If you've ever had a parent in the hospital and felt completely lost trying to understand what the doctors were really saying... or wondered if a discharge plan was actually safe... or didn't know who to trust when someone said "she doesn't have capacity to decide this" — this information is for you!

I'm a Registered Nurse with 22 years of bedside experience in critical care, the ER, and hospice. A few years ago I started Hand in Hand Patient Advocates because I kept watching families navigate these moments alone, without anyone in their corner who actually understood the medicine.

Here's the thing people don't always realize: I'm not a care manager. A care manager coordinates services. As an RN, I can actually read the chart myself, sit in the family meeting myself, and tell you what's really going on clinically — not a secondhand summary.

So if you have a loved one that needs a little extra help - reach out to me! Let me walk you thorugh it!

Sometimes, having someone look at the whole picture can make all the difference..

I recently worked with a gentleman who had six physicians and 24-hour caregivers, yet he had continued to lose weight until he was down to just 99 pounds.

As I reviewed his medications and medical history, I noticed he was taking a GLP-1 medication for diabetes. I brought my concerns to his physician, and the medication was discontinued.

Since then, he has gained 21 pounds. ❤️

This is why I do what I do.

As a patient advocate, I look at the whole picture—medications, doctors, diagnoses, caregivers, appointments and what is actually happening day to day.

Sometimes, patients don't need another doctor. They need someone to connect the dots and make sure everyone is looking at the same picture.

That’s where I can help.

Looking for a massage therapist that can give an at home massage in Smithville on Friday. Or do you know another business that is near Smithville/Wooster for a massage. I have messaged businesses - no one is calling back.

They shouldn’t have to navigate healthcare alone. ❤️

As our parents and loved ones get older, healthcare can become complicated—multiple doctors, medications, appointments, test results, hospital stays, and decisions that can feel overwhelming.

Having a trusted family member or patient advocate involved can make a tremendous difference.

A second set of eyes can help:
• Ask questions and make sure concerns are heard
• Keep track of medications and changes
• Understand what the doctor is recommending
• Follow up on tests, referrals, and appointments
• Review discharge instructions after a hospital stay
• Help prevent miscommunication and medical errors
• Make sure everyone involved in their care is on the same page

Being involved doesn’t mean taking away a senior’s independence. It means making sure they have someone in their corner when they need it most.

Healthcare is complicated. Your loved one shouldn’t have to figure it all out alone.

Sometimes, the best advocate is simply someone who is paying attention. ❤️
